Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)
96 min. (Feature Film)
It's 1944, and Brendan Byers III (Jerry Lewis) is the richest man in the world, bored by life until he receives a new challenge... his draft notice. Labeled 4-F, he joins with three other medical washouts, Sid Hackle (Jan Murray), Peter Bland (Steve Franken) and Terry Love (Dack Rambo), to train as their own commando unit and invade Europe in Byers' yacht. Along with Byers' chauffeur and butler, the small band of mercenaries decide to break the stalemated Italian front at Anzio. Byers is a dead ringer for the Nazi commander in Italy, Field Marshal Erik Kesselring, and our heroes infiltrate his chalet, eliminate Kesselring and his SS guards, and take their place.
US forces suspect a trap when the Italian and German forces retreat under the "new" Kesselring's orders, and refuse to advance. But the commandos' plans take a favorable turn of events when Field Marshal Von Budweiser (Benny Rubin) arrives, and "Kesselring" learns that he's the German Chief of Staff's inside man in the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
Joe Besser has a small role as an Army Sergeant.
Character actor Sidney Miller ('Adolf Hitler') had a career behind the camera, and directed The Three Stooges in THE THREE STOOGES SCRAPBOOK (1960). As a child actor, he appeared with Ted Healy in THE BAND PLAYS ON (1934).
Look for Stooge supporting players Benny Rubin, Kenneth MacDonald, Myron Healey, Milton Frome, Norman Leavitt and Paul Winchell.
