Larry, Moe and Shemp Keep the Laughter Flowing…

THE THREE STOOGES COLLECTION  Volume Six: 1949 - 1951

24 More Fan Requested Digitally-Remastered Shorts,
Arranged Chronologically and Packaged in a Two-Disc DVD Set

AVAILABLE ON DVD JUNE 16

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (April 13, 2009) – Eye-gouging, nose-tweaking, stomach-poking, ear-pulling, head-slapping, pie-throwing, and seltzer-spraying can only mean one thing. The classic comedy trio of Larry, Moe, and Shemp are back doing what they do best. America’s favorite comedic trio continues tickling funny bones on June 16 when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment launches "The Three Stooges Collection  Volume Six: 1949 – 1951." These fan requested short films, all digitally remastered and chronologically organized, include such classics as THE GHOST TALKS, THREE HAMS ON RYE and PEST MAN WINS. The sixth volume in this tremendously popular series will be available in a two-disc DVD set for $24.96 SRP.

The Three Stooges are one of the most influential screen comedy teams of the 20th century and have been an inspiration to generations of comics that followed. Following their start in vaudeville, the trio’s film career began in the early 1930s, reached its slapstick peak during their tenure at Columbia Pictures (1934-1957) and lasted well into the 1950s. After their initial retirement, they were rediscovered by an enthusiastic new generation through the medium of television and have surpassed all their contemporaries in terms of lasting popularity. Volume Six continues Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s long-running tribute to the comedic mastery of the Stooges, by tracing the evolution and development of their craft in films from 1949 – 1951 in progressive order.

"The Three Stooges Collection Volume Six: 1949 – 1951" episodes include:

You legend!

I must have a sixth sense. Believe it or not when i came here 2 minutes ago the time was stuck on 3:15pm so i refreshed to get to 6pm to check out if we have volume 6 news and in the mean time i went into "video eta".  :o The Sony schedule is upto June 16th so any day now we should know if thats the correct date which im guessing it is as we have not been given an incorrect date yet.

I remember volume 3 was announced 10 days after volume 2 came out so this is pretty much the same thing.

Offline locoboymakesgood

Nice! This is like the short amount of time between Volumes 3 and 4!

Let's hope they keep it up for the final three or however many volumes. Wonder if they still plan to have the entire collection out by the end of '09... Would be quite a feat at this point (with the economy).

You know, I didn't realize just how many of these Shorts hadn't made it to DVD before, and there are several that I don't have on VHS either, like Self Made Maids.  Awesome!

A few shorts never before released on home video, in any format...
HUGS AND MUGS (1950)
SELF MADE MAIDS (1950)
SLAPHAPPY SLEUTHS (1950)

And, others that were on VHS from GoodTimes; but, never released by Columbia...
LOVE AT FIRST BITE (1950)
THREE HAMS ON RYE (1950)
BABY SITTERS JITTERS (1951)
DON'T THROW THAT KNIFE (1951)

And, the first official Columbia release of MALICE IN THE PALACE (1949).

Yes indeed, which is why I have been looking foward to this Volume for awhile now. Alot
of my favorite Shemp shorts are in this collection. They include-

Who Done It?
Fuelin' Around
Vagabond Loafers
Dunked in the Deep (Bortch rules)
Dopey Dicks
Three Hams on Rye
Studio Stoops
Slaphappy Sleuths
A Snitch In Time
Three Arabian Nuts
Scrambled Brains
The Tooth Will Out

Sooo happy it's just a few months away!

Wow, this is going to be such a stellar set. Three Hams On Rye is such a forgotten classic short.

Offline dimelives

Yeah, not EVEN three months. Two and 3/4 from today :)

Any bets on set colors or front image? ;D

Offline Stooges#1

Im guessing the colour will be white and the image just your standard Moe, Larry and Shemp like they did with Moe, Larry and Curly.

I still cant believe that in June we'll have every short up to 1951, Sony have slowly but surely become one of my favourite studios. At this stage its Warner Bros for what they've done with the Looney Tunes.

I'll say this same image from the Fuelin Around VHS release:

Offline dimelives

Oooo, could be. How much ya wanna put down? ;D

But I dunno about the white color... Not sure if they'd do one of the blank hues (black/white/gray).

Offline dimelives

What about hot pink?
Ack, my eyes! xD

I dunno what it'll be... brown? Yellow? Orange? Another shade of a color we've already gotten? The primary palette is running a little thin =P

SONY just don't understand the passion of a Stoogephile! - But at least they are doing some worthwhile work in restoring/remastering all of the 190 Three Stooges shorts.

Wow! This is terrific news! I have all but two (Hugs and Mugs & Scrambled Brains) on VHS, taped off the TV, & the quality of most of them is not real good, not to mention the fact that most of them have entire scenes deleted to make room for commericals. Plus, I'll also get to finally hear one of my favorite Shemp lines again - In Hugs and Mugs where he sits on the hot iron & says, "Smells like somebody's roasting a ham."

Even though this set hasn't been officially announced, it's still looking good. ClassicFlix.com also says that Sony plans to release this set on June 16th. Here's the link: http://classicflix.blogspot.com/2009/03/three-stooges-vol-6-in-june-special-3.html

I still can't believe how many rare shorts we will be getting in this volume. I've always wondered why Sony never released shorts like Self Made Maids, Slaphappy Sleuths and Baby Sitters Jitters before. Well, it's good we're finally getting it now.
