Featuring Moe, Larry and Curly
106 min. (Feature Film)
A compilation of Columbia short subjects, featuring The Three Stooges' shorts VIOLENT IS THE WORD FOR CURLY (1938), YES, WE HAVE NO BONANZA (1939) and YOU NAZTY SPY! (1940).
Rounding out the "Follies" are the Buster Keaton short NOTHING BUT PLEASURE (1940), BATMAN "Chapter 1 - The Electrical Brain" (1943), Vera Vague's STRIFE OF THE PARTY (1944), and the Kate Smith one-reeler AMERICA SINGS WITH KATE SMITH (1942).
In the early 1970s, comedy from Hollywood's golden age gained a new appreciation in pop culture, especially among the college crowd. Revivals of the films of W. C. Fields, the Marx Brothers and Laurel & Hardy were particularly popular. THE THREE STOOGES FOLLIES was Columbia's answer to this trend, marketed primarily to university and nostalgia theaters. Columbia promoted it well, unusual for a reissue compilation, even providing 1-sheet lobby posters which are now rare and desirable items for collectors.
