Ex-husband of Ann Sothern, they were married 1943 - 1949; Tisha Sterling is their daughter. Married to actress Anne Jeffreys from 1951 until his death, and the couple costarred in the TV series TOPPER (1953 - 1955). Starred as 'Capt. Lee Crane' in the Irwin Allen/20th-Fox sci-fi feature VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (1961), but declined continuing in the TV spin-off (the role was assumed by David Hedison).
