"Ten classic short comedies starring the original Three Stooges will show at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque over the next two weekends. The films, made between 1934 and 1940, will be grouped into two programs: THE BEST OF THE THREE STOOGES I, 1934-1937, showing Friday, March 23 at 9:15 pm and Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 pm, and THE BEST OF THE THREE STOOGES II, 1938-1940, showing Friday, March 30 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 pm.
The first program includes the Oscar-nominated Men in Black; Pop Goes the Easel; Movie Maniacs; Grips, Grunts, and Groans; and Disorder in the Court, often cited as their funniest film. Program two includes You Nazty Spy!, the first Hollywood movie to openly satirize Hitler and the Nazi Party (both Moe and Larry regarded it as their favorite Stooges short); Termites of 1938; Healthy, Wealthy and Dumb; Violent Is the Word for Curly; and A Plumbing We Will Go.
All films will show in beautiful 35mm prints from the Sony Pictures studio archive. Admission to each program is $9, or $5 for ages 25 & under (with proof of age). The Cinematheque shows its films in the Aitken Auditorium of the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Boulevard in University Circle, telephone (216) 421-7450,
