Turner Classic Movies is saluting The Hal Roach Studios in January, a 24-hour salute every Tuesday-Wednesday 8PM - 8PM Eastern.

Tuesday Jan. 4 - Wednesday Jan. 5 features "Our Gang."  See schedule above for titles.

The first 8+ hours presents some of the best of 1930 - 1937, covering the more well-known shorts with Jackie Cooper, Norman Chaney, Stymie Beard, Mary Ann Jackson, Wheezer Hutchins, Dorothy DeBorba, Spanky McFarland, Alfalfa Switzer, Darla Hood, Buckwheat Thomas and Porky Lee.

The silent-era shorts of 1922 - 1929 are the highlight of the last 15+ hours, beginning at 4:45AM Wednesday morning. Many of these have rarely, if ever, been shown on television, with Mickey Daniels, Joe Cobb, Sammy Morrison, Mary Kornman, Farina Hoskins and others.

Reminder -

TCM's salute to the Hal Roach Studios continues today (Jan. 11) with a 24-hour marathon of Laurel & Hardy. Begins at 8PM Eastern.

For those of us who will be snowed-in tonight and tomorrow, it's a great way to enjoy the fine mess.

It starts in a half hour and I'm excited.  Can't wait for nonstop Laurel and Hardy all night long.  DVR is set just in case that pesky thing called sleep gets in the way, though.

Been really enjoying the marathon so far but I'm disappointed that some of these prints are in real rough shape. It's a shame they couldn't use the remastered ones Universal put out in their UK set. Some of these seem to be syndicated prints from the 80s.

I filled up like half my computers memory with Laurel and Hardys complete shorts and a few movies. Its still nice to see them finally getting some airtime on cable though. These copies are terrible compared to the ones I have. I dont know why but I preferer Laurel and Hardy colorized. Maybe its cause thats how I grew up watching them.

There's this guy I work with who looks exactly like Stan Laurel.  I don't mean slight resemblance, I mean EXACTLY like Stan Laurel.  I hate walking by the guy because there were times I almost burst out in random laughter.

Ask him if he knows who L&H are and to do a Stan impression!  Have him give you a pic, too, lol.

I don't even know the guy, he works in a different department.  I just walk by him a few times a week, and it never fails to freak me out.  I do a double take everytime I see him.  He's a young guy, probably my age, so I wonder if he even knows who Stan Laurel is.

There is a nice old man in my local Lion's Club that looks exactly like Stan Laurel when he got old! (Like in the home movies with him in his apartment, dusting his Oscar).

I really enjoyed the marathon, although as with most of them, it's too much of a good thing all at once. I'd never seen very many Laurel & Hardy shorts, & I think I like them better than their full length movies.

I happened to catch THE LAUREL-HARDY MURDER CASE which is almost the same plot and uses some very similar lines to The Three Stooges' IF A BODY MEETS A BODY. In fact, the latter must have been a remake of the former. It even had Fred Kelsey playing the same role as a detective!

There were a number of other similarities with the Stooges, but don't ask me to cite them because I wasn't taking notes. Several times, I did see that sorta ugly looking guy who portrays the pro football team owner in the Stooges' THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS.

Walter Long.  He also played the infamous role of "Gus" in D.W. Griffith's BIRTH OF A NATION.  Unfortunately, I can never look at Walter Long without thinking of that role.  He was in blackface and was trying to rape a white woman.  Instead of giving in to his advances, she jumps off a cliff.

BIRTH OF A NATION is an important film in the history of filmmaking, but the second half is pretty jaw dropping in its racism.  Walter Long has one of the meatier roles.  I watch THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS and all I can think of is BIRTH OF A NATION and I LOVE LUCY.

My cable tv provider, Comcast, just added a new channel called Antenna TV this last week. They show old tv shows & a movie now & then. Kinda looks like TV Land when they first started.

While checking through the on-screen program guide last night, I was pleasantly surprised to see they were showing The Three Stooges! I checked out a couple, including LOCO BOY MAKES GOOD. The listings show 3 Stooge episodes per hour, starting every 20 minutes. They had no commercials interrupting them; the commercials ran in between episodes (hopefully, that will last for awhile); unlike AMC (& now IFC) who interrupt the episodes to show commercials, then have no commercials between the end of one episode & the start of the next one.

Antenna TV's schedule is listed at their website, AntennaTV.com. From what I could see, they are showing the Stooges on weekends only.
