With visitors to the site coming from all across America and around the world, I've thought for a while that it would be nice to add a chat room to the site.  I ran a poll a while ago about a Flash chat room, and while there wasn't a lot of response, it was overwhelmingly in favor.  The Flash chat would have required quite a bit of work for me to completely integrate it into the site, though.

Recently I discovered a mod for this message board system that let me easily integrate a java applet chat room, and it is now installed on the site.  Register members who are logged in should see a "Chat" button or link at the top of the pages; when you click on it you will be taken to the chat room and automatically logged in using your member name with the suffix "_3sof".

The chat room is tied into IRC,  and when you first log into the chat room, you can double-click on your user name in the list on the right hand side and register the name. members can also access your chat room with any IRC client ( mIRC, pIRC, ircZ, Ircle etc.) The server address is irc.everywherechat.com port 7000 or 6667 (the chat room's name is "threestooges.net", naturally.)

I should point out that you can "Float" the chat room in a separate window - but if you close the browser window or go to a different page on the site the chat room window will close.

Well that's been fun.  I just had a long chat with a few of the members in the Chat Room, and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

I'm going to make a point of leaving the chat room window open whenever I'm online, and I hope more of you will start using it too.  It's got a lot of really cool features, and it's a great way to get to know our fellow members better!

I've also added a "Stooges Chat Room" link in the menu on the left, just above the Message Boards link.

To try to get this chat room swinging I'll try to be in there every night around 8. If I'm not responding to anyone right away that means I'm doing something else on the computer, but I will check in on the chat room every couple of minutes to see if anyone has joined me.

Just how many people have been to the chat room? I rarely ever see anyone there. c'mon people don't be shy!  :D
It takes an estimated 2,893 licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop.
