A recommendation for the rarely-shown THE COMIC (1969), written and directed by Carl Reiner, starring Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney...

December 31 @ 1AM Eastern.

Van Dyke's 'Billy Bright' is an amalgam of Buster Keaton, Larry Semon and Harry Langdon. Not a great movie, but it's an entertaining and interesting homage to silent comedy clowns, particularly the forgotten like Semon. This site's fans of classic comedy will find it worthwhile.

A tie-in with the 1960's Music Thread:

I bought the 45 "Midnight" by Classics IV in late 1969. Their big hits were behind them, and this was not a smash, but still is one of my favorites by them.
On the B-side is a song called "The Comic" from the motion picture of the same name. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if the song actually is used or how it would fit in. Or who performs it if it is in the movie. But the record label says it's featured.

And one addition of importance:
Tonight from 9:39 to 10:00 pm EST, TCM is showing THE OLD BULL, a Thelma todd/Zasu Pitts comedy from 1932.

Channel 38, Boston held their traditional New Years Eve Three Stooges Marathon again this year.
It ran from 8:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M.
All the shorts shown were presented without interruption, but with commercials between.
Just as they did last year they had two hosts (from some other show on the station...not anyone actually connected with The Stooges) who tried to add amusing routines and comments between the shorts. Although it seemed that there was a little less filler between the films than last year they still ran the same number of shorts: 13.

Here's a list of what was shown:

Woman Haters
A Plumbing We Will Go
Movie Maniacs
Back From the Front
Cactus Makes Perfect
Dizzy Pilots
Violent is the Word for Curly
Idiots DeLuxe
Yes, We Have No Bonanza
Playing the Ponies
How High Is Up?
Men in Black
Goof On the Roof

" Me TV " in Chicago had 12 hours of Stooge shorts from noon to midnight, then at midnight they ran " Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein ". What amazes me is that even though I have everything on DVD, I still sat around and watched most of it on TV.
"When in Chicago call Stockyards 1234, Ask for Ruby".

No New Year's Eve Stooges marathon here in Hell, so I just pulled out my Volume 1 & 2 DVD's and had my own marathon, but AMC miraculously came through on New Year's Day and aired a Stooges marathon from I believe midnight-midnight (on the 2nd).

Mom said, "See?  The California gods must have heard you complaining."  And I thought, "Mom, California doesn't have gods.  It has demons.  Now New England, IT has gods."
IT'S ALIVE!!!!
