The NY Post reports that May 18, The Warner Archive will add Jerry Lewis' WHICH WAY TO THE FRONT? (1970) and CRACKING UP (1983).

For Stooges fans, Joe Besser has a supporting role in FRONT, as do supporting players Benny Rubin, Kenneth MacDonald, Milton Frome and Myron Healey.

The Post article also mentions a 35-short collection of MGM musicals. Titles to be included are not yet known, but it's quite possible it will include at least one of the Healy & His Stooges shorts... confirmation (or not) will be posted as soon as details are available.

A partial list of contents for the 35-film "Classic Musical Shorts From the Dream Factory" reveals that the four [surviving] Ted Healy & His Stooges shorts will be included...
NERTSERY RHYMES (1933), PLANE NUTS (1933), BEER AND PRETZELS (1933) and THE BIG IDEA (1934).

The title was added to the archive site this morning, and it looks like the Healy/Stooges shorts didn't make the cut, after all.

That's very strange (and disappointing!). A partial list was released Monday with titles, including The Stooges' MGM shorts, that now are not listed in this new listing of the contents:

http://www.wbshop.com/Classic-Musical-Shorts-from-the-Dream-Factory/1000150505,default,pd.html?cgid=ARCHIVENEW

Here's the partial list, as posted on the Yahoo Group (with some descriptive comments I added):

The Devil's Cabaret, The (1930)- color. With Charles Middleton as Satan.
Cinema Circus (1937)- All-star Louis Lewin Technicolor short. Includes comedy teams Olsen & Johnson amd The Ritz Brothers.
Gems of M-G-M (1930)- Benny Rubin & musical clips from the unreleased 1930 MGM musical feature "The March of Time". Final Technicolor number is lost, so this short just stops with no real ending.
Musical Masterpieces (1946)- with Carlos Ramirez and Lucille Norman.
My Grandfather's Clock (1934)- wacky musical Philo Vance detective spoof with Franklin Pangborn.
Nertsery Rhymes (1933)- Ted & Stooges. Let's hope they've done some much-needed restoration on the color in this one.
Over the Counter (1932)- musical silliness in a department store. With Sidney Toler.
Rhumba Rhythm at the Hollywood La Conga (1939)- One of the "Sally Payne & Mary Treen try to meet movie stars" shorts.
Streamlined Swing (1938)- Directed by Buster Keaton!
Wild People (1932)- Technicolor caveman musical comedy starring comedy team Jans & Whelan. And the great Joyzelle! And Dewey Robinson doing his Bing Crosby imitation!
Bars and Stripes (1937)- with Dick Winslow & Veola Vonn. Co-written by Mauri Grashin who also co-wrote the Stooges short "Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise".
Big Idea, The (1934)- Ted & Stooges.
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Frankie Carle & Marjorie Hughes (1948)
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Freddy Martin & His Orchestra (1948)
Gypsy Night (1935)- Technicolor weirdness in a Gypsy camp.
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Les Brown & Virginia O'Brien (1948)
Let's Dance (1936)- meet choreographer Dave Gould.
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Ray Noble & Buddy Clark (1948)
Swing Banditry (1936)- Starring Georgie Stoll & His Orch. Also Franklin Pangborn.
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Tex Beneke & His Orchestra (1948)
Musical Merry-Go-Round: Tex Beneke & Les Brown (1948)
Beer and Pretzels (1933)- Ted & Stooges.
Plane Nuts (1933)- Ted & Stooges.

Oh well, maybe there'll be a Volume 2 and we'll see Ted & The Stooges then.
Still, there are some great fun shorts on this new set anyway.

Classic Musical Shorts From the Dream Factory

A small consolation, the collection does include Healy's appearance LA FIESTA DE SANTA BARBARA (1935), which also features Buster Keaton.
