In "The Complete Three Stooges" by Jon Solomon, he asks "Why is there a saw on the piano?" during the Stooges' musical act in Termites of 1938. While watching the new print of this film on Volume 2, you can see a member of the band playing a musical saw on the right side of the screen as the Stooges and other guests exit the dining room. I had never noticed it before and while there is obviously no musical saw part in the music that is playing during this short, it does give an answer to why a fancy house would have a random saw lying around.
