Budget DVD distributor Madacy Home Video has a new 4-DVD set entitled "The Three Stooges Collector's Edition." It's been sold exclusively thru C3's store for the past couple months, but goes into general retail release on January 20, 2009; Amazon and some other sellers are taking preorders. It has a lot of the usual public domain material, but also contains some copyrighted material (*) e.g., a few Shemp Vitaphone shorts, Healy/Stooges MGM shorts, and STEVE ALLEN SHOW skits.
* Surprising for Madacy, who usually deals in license-free material.
Most of the DVDs' content is available elsewhere (e.g., Legend Films' "Extreme Rarities," "Live & Hilarious" and "SWING PARADE OF 1946", official Warner Home Video DVDs, etc.), and with better video quality.
The only real surprise/draw to this collection is one of the Stooges' rarely-seen TV commercials...
