Something catastrophic happened to the database Monday afternoon (12/3/07), apparently shortly after the last time I was on the site.  I didn't even realize the site had gone down until Moron4392 emailed me yesterday morning.  When I checked I discovered that I could not access the database through any of the methods available to me, so I had to call for help.

I still don't know for sure what happened, but the hosting company's tech guys had to rebuild the database and create a new login, etc, on a different server.  I'll do another local backup at home tonight, although having a local copy didn't help me in this case, since I couldn't even access the database in order to fix it.

On a side note, I am in the process of choosing a new hosting service, and the site will probably be getting moved to a new server over the Christmas holidays.  I'll post more information in a new announcement once I have more details.

LOL!  I wish I knew!

We've had a few database issues in the past, but those were usually database lock-ups when we were still using an old-fashioned Microsoft Access database, which wasn't really designed to be used for web sites.   The worst screw-up was the time a couple of years ago when I accidentally replaced every message in the boards and fan comments with the same thing, thanks to a malformed update query.  I've never had the database refuse all access to me before, however, as it did this time.

I wondered what happened!

Me too.  :)

I was getting the shakes without this place.   ;D  Then, I decide to do some research on actors and kept thinking about all the info here that I couldn't see.   :'(

Very happy to see the place up and running again.   8)

Man, thats very weird that it just crashed on you like that. Glad you were able to get it fixed Dunny

I was getting some serious withdrawl yesterday, I'm glad the site is back!

Looking foward to you finding another server, hopefully something like this wont happen again anytime soon.

It's good to know everything is back to normal.

I didn't go into work yesterday, so needless to say I was home all day without my Stooges-fix. Talk about withdrawl! [pie]

I'm happy to see that everything's back to normal!  I wonder what went wrong.  It's strange that it crashed so suddenly, but sometimes, computers truly have a mind of their own!

2 days is WAY too long to go without threestooges.net!!

I'm glad to see everything back to abnormal. I thought I was going to have to go back to the "Official.Com Site."  :'(

That's a horrible thought JazzBill.  The official site is such a huge disappointment.  As a Stooges fan, nothing beats Dunrobin's site.  I'm so glad things are back to normal.  At first I thought there was a problem with my computer.  I've missed posting here, even if it was only a couple of days. ;D

When I visited this site the last couple of days, I was wondering why I couldn't access it. Then, I went to Stoogeworld to see if anyone was discussing about it and nothing was there. So, I thought there was something wrong with my computer. Well, I'm glad to hear that my computer is fine and that this site is back.

By the way, threestooges.com is not as bad as it used to be. The guestbook is now being monitored strictly and nothing is posted until it's approved.

Don't I count ? I went there looking for answers too. I replied to a post you made on 10-14-07. But nothing else came from it.

Yes, you do count. My apologies. The problem was, my login expired for some reason and I didn't realize it. When you're not logged in, the posts aren't arranged in the correct order. Since the posts weren't in order, I didn't see it because it didn't get bumped up.
