I've been playing around with the new Netscape 8.01 web browser (don't ask - I'm just a geek who can't resist playing with the latest toys.)  I've got to admit that I like it a lot.

Netscape was originally the web browser to use, but that is ancient history now.  Microsoft dived in with Internet Explorer, and it quickly took pre-eminence as the web browser to use, even though it's been continuously plagued by security holes that have to be patched.  Netscape never managed to catch back up with IE, and they eventually turned over their browser code to the Mozilla organization.

Recently Mozilla launched an excellent new browser called FireFox, which has been gaining in popularity.  I've been using it regularly since it was launched.  It's got a lot of nice features, such as mutli-tab browsing, and you can choose from a huge number of themes and extensions to expand it even more  The only problem with it is that FireFox cannot handle web sites which have been developed specifically for the IE environment.

Netscape 8 is a brand new browser for the line, and is built on the latest Mozilla FireFox engine.  But it's got some interesting features not available in FireFox, foremost of which is the ability to switch rendering engines for the page you are viewing.  You can use either the FireFox or the IE engine.  (That makes a big difference to me!)

Another feature it has is a customizable Sidebar, that slides in and out from the left.  I've made a Sidebar for ThreeStooges.net.  Netscape doesn't have a simple way to install new sidebars right now, but it is possible.  In your Netscape  8 browser,  go to http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/community/devsidebar.jsp   There is a form about 2/3 of the way down that let's you Preview a new sidebar tab.  Just enter "ThreeStooges.net" for the tab name and "http://threestooges.net/sidebar.3sof.php" for the tab URL and click on the "Preview Tab" button.  The tab should be added to your Sidebar.
Enjoy!  :smileinbox:
