Sunday night Sept. 5, 8PM - Midnight Eastern, TCM celebrates the 75th anniversary of the short subject series THE MARCH OF TIME. TCM will run 8 films over the 4-hour timeslot.

THE MARCH OF TIME was essentially a newsreel, expanded to a 2-reel running time, which covered a single timely topic indepth. The traditional news documentary, and news magazines like 60 MINUTES, grew from the format of THE MARCH OF TIME. It ran in theatres from 1935 - 1950, had a radio version thru the 1950s, and TV specials into the early 1960s.

Of interest to this group is the 9PM short, "Show Business at War" (1943), which examines celebrities' roles during World War II... enlisting in the Armed Forces, hosting the Canteens, USO performances, war bond rallies, etc.
