Joey Barnes hosts a network, late-night New York talk show. Episodes revolve around his professional and personal life, with celebrities appearing as themselves. At home are Joey's beautiful wife Ellie, and maid Hilda. Joe Besser costars as Mr. Jillson, the building superintendent, a high-strung man with a heart of gold, and a never-seen wife who is only heard yelling "Jillson!" through the building's ventilation system. Rounding out the main characters is Larry Corbett, Joey's best friend, head writer and manager.
The baby is due, everything is fine, Ellie, Larry and Jillson are nervous, and Joey is calm. Or at least he is until Ellie goes into labor. To Joey's credit, the waiting room is populated with expectant fathers in even worse shape.
