Bud Abbott and Lou Costello preserved the art of burlesque with their stage personas and virtually perfect timing, in the 1st season of their syndicated sitcom. Bud and Lou basically play themselves as unemployed comics residing in Mr. Fields' boarding house. A&C spend each day avoiding Fields' demand for back rent, while welcoming a cast of regular and guest characters, who join them in a rapid-fire parade of burlesque jokes and routines.

Hillary inherits her uncle's haunted mansion, and has to spend a night in it, to be eligible for the fortune supposedly hidden in its walls. Bud and Lou volunteer to stay with her, while crooked Lawyer Melonhead releases a gorilla to frighten them away. Stinky (Joe Besser) and Lou play a game of slapstick football.
