Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)
99 min. (Feature Film)
Joe Besser was originally cast as the poultry truck driver, and filmed his scenes... but director Howard Morris recast the role with Vic Tayback (ALICE); as a result, Joe Besser does not appear in this film.
Middle-aged and widowed, casual acquaintances Abby McClure (Doris Day) and Jake Iverson (Brian Keith) come together and fall in love. Abby's teenaged son, and Jake's teenaged daughter, make it clear that they don't approve, but regardless, the single parents elope to Las Vegas. Chaos ensues as the merged family of six (including Abby's two younger boys) find themselves bouncing back and forth between their two houses, neither of which has enough room for everyone. Borrowing her sister's camper trailer is assumed to be a temporary solution to the problem, but adds to the confusion and misunderstandings, landing the entire family, a gang of motorcycle-riding flower children, and two burly truckers at the local police station.
Filmed in Panavision and DeLuxe Color.
Howard Morris was a prolific film and television director in the 1960/1970s, but is best remembered from the cast of Sid Caesar's YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS and CAESAR'S HOUR, and as 'Ernest T. Bass' on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Mr. Morris worked with The Three Stooges in the U.S. Treasury short subject STAR SPANGLED SALESMAN (1968), and he directed the Norman Maurer produced feature film WHO'S MINDING THE MINT? (1967).
