Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)
74 min. (Feature Film)
The Israeli king Ahab marries the conniving Princess Jezebel (Paulette Goddard) of Pheonicia, who plans to supplant God with her pagan idol Baal, divide Israel with civil war, and conquer it with her homeland's army. Arriving in Israel, she seduces and bewitches the Captain of the Army, Jehu, and carries on an illicit affair behind the back of the weak-willed Ahab. Her false god is opposed by the King's spiritual adviser Elijah and the land's prophets, who are soon forced into exile, accompanied by Jehu's true love, Deborah. Jehu comes to his senses and leads the struggle to defeat Jezebel and save Israel.
Joe Besser costars as Yonkel, a chariot driver and sidekick to Jehu.
Ms. Goddard was once married to Charlie Chaplin, and costarred in several of his films, including MODERN TIMES (1936) and THE GREAT DICTATOR (1940).
