Google now has scads of pictures from the archives of Life magazine to scan through. The following is the only one that wasn't from a series with Curly-Joe, accompanied by a description:

Is this on film available to the general public? Is it on DVD?

Interesting picture. I haven't seen that before and I have no clue what film that was taken from. That picture is not from their shorts nor from "Gold Raiders." So, I don't think that picture is taken from any film. Maybe it's a picture taken specially for Life magazine.

Look at Larry! He's 'drinking' his pickle!

Chalk up another strange thing Larry does with food.

I'm going to guess it was just a gag shot exclusive to Life Magazine.  Did the boys have an article written about them in Life?  That magazine had an important article or two about the history of comedy, one I'm thinking of from 1949, the same year the picture was taken.  Perhaps the picture was taken as an example of "modern" comedy as opposed to the "golden age" of comedy.  Just a wild guess, I'm probably wrong.

Anyway, cool picture.

Anyway, cool picture.

I think it's funny how Moe and Shemp have the exact same looks on their faces:  the 'pop' eyes and scrunched up mouths.

This is my first post and hopefully I am doing this correctly.

I'm looking for the short where Curly (I think) piles his plate with food, only to find that his shirt was sitting on his plate.  In discust, he violently slaps the food everywhere including Moe's face which of course starts a huge food fight.

I'm also looking for the one where Moe calls one of the other a titmouse.

Thanks

Bix

I believe it's Income Tax Sappy, but it was Shemp putting mash potatoes and gravy in his shirt.

Hi everyone!

I'd appreciate any help that can be given.  I am looking for all of the titles of albums/CD's made by The Three Stooges.  I have some after searching online, but I am told The Three Stooges produced five albums.

I am looking for these for my blind, mentally handicapped brother.  He is the biggest fan of all!!!  I guess he has three cd's...so I am looking for the other two.  What do you get a guy that has EVERYTHING for Christmas???

Thanks so much.

Hi RaggedyAndie!  You can find that information on the Discography page.  I hope it will help you find the records that you need.

The rare 1945 Stooge feature with Curly, 'Rockin' In The Rockies', was on TCM early Thursday morning. I just caught a little of it and was kicking myself that I woke up too late to record it. The film obviously was made around the time that Curly's health was deteriorating as his energy level was low and Larry was carrying most of the comedy when they were together. Still, I'd like to get a copy of it if possible.

You should pick up the New Three Stooges DVD Collections. They run around $19.99 New. And you can not beat that deal with a stick!

Offline OldFred

This is just a thought on my part, but do you think the 5th volume of the Three Stooges might include the Stooge feature 'Rockin' In The Rockies' to help round out the Curly's? It also makes sense for the Shemp's to be added in volume 5 so that 'Hold That Lion', Curly's last film appearance and the only time the 'four' Stooges appeared in a Columbia short together, can be included.

Offline McSnuff20

I cant remember the name of the short, but they are playing carpenters, and Moe is atop a table that collapses (someone is sawing it). You can see his side land on the one edge of the table. I guess he got up, did a double slap, and passed out. I think he had several broken ribs.

That would be the beginning of "Pardon My Scotch" when they go from carpenters to scotch makers to Scotsmen.

You mention Rockin' in the Rockies but I'm familiar with Rockin' Through the Rockies 1940 when they are escorting Nelle's Belles to California from Kansas, a great short with Indians sporting New York accents. I have seen all the best of the shorts so can you tell me what Rockin' in the Rockies is about?

Offline McSnuff20

I haven't been back here in a while but have loved the Stooges since I watched them on TV in 1960. Anyway I must have seen my favorite Curleys hundreds of times over the years and was very surprised a while back when shorts I was very familiar with Movie Maniacs and Three Sappy People each had a new scene added that had been deleted back in the old daze. In Movie Maniacs the kissing scene was always deleted "Tell 'em what we know about kissing."  and in Sappy People the one when the boys are spiking the punch and using a stethoscope to drink. Also the guy with the wooden leg (post no bills.)  I wonder why they were deleted back in the early 60's. I know why the scene with the African American baby was deleted in Uncivil Warriors by why the ones in the shorts I mentioned. Thanks.

ROCKIN' IN THE ROCKIES (1945)

This site is primarily a filmography. All known film appearances by the Stooges are detailed in this database.

Explained in the filmography page for MOVIE MANIACS (1936).

I was looking at the "goofs" for Horses' Collars, and there are one or two goofs that weren't picked up...

1) The scene where the Stooges walk in to the dancehall where Nell is sitting.  The Stooges bow down to Nell, Moe bops Curly on the head...when they recover, Nell says, "Oh gentlemen..."  Moe is looking at Larry, then all of a sudden, all 3 look at the camera as if something went wrong...then Moe motions to Curly...then the scene cuts to them turning around to see who came in.

2) When Curly beats up the 2 thugs at the end...Moe and Larry come in tied up...Curly punches them both while yelling, "Moe Larry, the cheese."  Moe gets untied, and slaps Curly on the head...when Curly falls backwards and roles over on his head, sand comes trickling out of Curly's belt or holster.

I think there was a goof not picked up in GRIPS, GRUNTS, AND GROANS. When
Bustoff is knock out in the locker room and is laying on the floor, at first he as no shirt on, then when the shot pulls back and the Stooges start running around the locker trying to get away, he has a shirt on. (Also looks like a different, much thinner person laying on the floor.) Then when the shot goes back in after the stooges stop running Bustoff has no shirt again.

Also look close at the Bustoff with the shirt on. His head, looks like he has a hat on as well. I guess they where trying to make the “fake” Bustoff look like he had no hair?

What I would like to know is what was the average price to make the shorts?  At the site http://www.altfg.com/blog/actors/the-three-stooges-hitler-lampoon/ they say "You Nazty Spy" cost $18,500 which seems reasonable for that time.  It also states that Mo was the first american to play Hitler, which is unnerving but interesting.

I can't help you with a figure for making a short, but I would like to comment on "You Natzy Spy". Not only was Moe the first American to play Hitler, but Moe was also the first to parody him as well. Chaplin's "The Great Dictator" was in production for a long time, and many knew about Chaplin playing Hitler. The Stooges simply beat Chaplin out by releasing their short before his feature.

I am not quite sure of the production dates, and I don't feel like looking them up now. I'm sure one could find that information on IMDB and here on the filmography.

Even more unnerving....seeing the Reverend Kenny play Moe dressed as Hitler at the Fan Club Meeting!

Hi everyone! I was perusing the quotes and transcripts on this site and I'm stumped, joined here hoping someone can help me.

There is a quote (that I hope I'm not hallucinating at this point) where either Moe or Shemp says "Now we'll have action!"

And for the life of me I can't find it or remember which episode in which it was said. I've been a Stooges fan since I was little, watching them with my dad and little brother has been a long standing family tradition. I asked my dad and he's not sure about this one either!

Thanks for your help!

[Shemp] (Walking back to the phone) "Ah, Main 2468. Now, we'll have action!"

It's from Dopey Dicks. Shemp can't remember the number to the State Hospital.

"Operator, I want Main... Main?!"

Can't locate it on YouTube, but here's a link:

Hi, I would like to know the name of "The Three Stooges" episode where a radio falls into a tub and the DJ seems to be drowning. I have a few DVDs but not with the drowning radio. The last time I saw this was more than 20 years ago when I was a kid and I almost laughed my head off. Many thanks for any help.
