It appears that after Ted Healy lost his Stooges and found any replacements he could find, either animals (Sing Baby Sing), or any person available.  This color video below is from 1935 and it appears similar to a Stooges routine.  The person says something silly and gets hit, slapped by Healy

The guy with Healy is James Brewster, who also worked as a Stooge (with two other guys) with Healy in the 1936 feature SAN FRANCISCO, before final editing of the movie trimmed out their scenes. Healy is still in the movie, of course, but originally he also did some comedy routines on the stage, with those replacement Stooges. He also did the routine where he tries to sing his song "Noontime" (as he did in the 1933 short PLANE NUTS) but keeps getting interrupted. But again, the film editors decided we needed more of Jeanette MacDonald singing and that the Healy comedy can go.
