Here's a report on how the Saturday night show went:
The place was almost full - I believe it holds about 1200 people. As usual with these shows, there were all kinds of people - young & old, many families bringing kids. It's always great to see young kids having a good time laughing at Stooges films!
The audience definitely was into having a swell evening seeing The Stooges on the big screen and laughed loud and long almost constantly during the Curly shorts, not so constantly at the two Shemps.
During GENTS WITHOUT CENTS many in the crowd were actually reciting along loudly with the Stooges every time they did the "Slowly I turn" routine. And during MICRO-PHONIES many sang along with Christine McIntyre's performances of "Voices of Spring".
One of the biggest laughs of the whole evening came during BACK FROM THE FRONT when the big fat German (Jack "Tiny" Lipson) got knocked out and fell on Larry, almost crushing him.
One interesting comment, overheard from the row behind me, while a father & son (who appeared to be about 7 years old) chatted about The Stooges during the intermission break halfway through the show:
Father: There was Curly, then there was Shemp. Then later they got Joe.
Son: Oh yeah, he's the one that's not funny.
Here's the list of the shorts shown:
Three Little Twirps
The Yoke's On Me
They Stooge to Conga
Gents Without Cents
For Crimin' Out Loud
Gypped in the Penthouse
Back From the Front
Micro-Phonies
The folks putting on the show are trying not to repeat shorts shown over the last two years of these shows, so that must explain the lack of prime 1930's Curly shorts and the inclusion of two lesser Shemps in this show.
