This is late notice, but for anyone living near the Rochester NY area there is going to be
a showing of Three Stooges shorts at The Dryden Theatre located at the George Eastman House
Museum on Friday, December 30th at 8pm

http://dryden.eastmanhouse.org/films/2011/11/the-three-stooges/

They will be showing the following 5 shorts
- Ants in the Pantry (1936)
- We Want Our Mummy (1939)
- You Natzy Spy (1940
- In the Sweet Pie and Pie (1941)
- Loco Boy Makes Good (1942).

I'm going with my best friend who likes the Stooges and is looking foward to watching them on
the big screen instead of TV. I really like most of these shorts so we'll be having fun.

Here's a report on how the Saturday night show went:
The place was almost full - I believe it holds about 1200 people.  As usual with these shows, there were all kinds of people - young & old, many families bringing kids. It's always great to see young kids having a good time laughing at Stooges films!
The audience definitely was into having a swell evening seeing The Stooges on the big screen and laughed loud and long almost constantly during the Curly shorts, not so constantly at the two Shemps.

During GENTS WITHOUT CENTS many in the crowd were actually reciting along loudly with the Stooges every time they did the "Slowly I turn" routine. And during MICRO-PHONIES many sang along with Christine McIntyre's performances of "Voices of Spring".
One of the biggest laughs of the whole evening came during BACK FROM THE FRONT when the big fat German (Jack "Tiny" Lipson) got knocked out and fell on Larry, almost crushing him.

One interesting comment, overheard from the row behind me, while a father & son (who appeared to be about 7 years old) chatted about The Stooges during the intermission break halfway through the show:
Father: There was Curly, then there was Shemp. Then later they got Joe.
Son: Oh yeah, he's the one that's not funny.

Here's the list of the shorts shown:

Three Little Twirps
The Yoke's On Me
They Stooge to Conga
Gents Without Cents
For Crimin' Out Loud
Gypped in the Penthouse
Back From the Front
Micro-Phonies

The folks putting on the show are trying not to repeat shorts shown over the last two years of these shows, so that must explain the lack of prime 1930's Curly shorts and the inclusion of two lesser Shemps in this show.

The Festival is a great publicity event for the theater and the city, and being free certainly helps. Also, maybe it's a legal thing - if they charge for admission, they might have to pay the films' rights holders, whereas if it's free they don't have to. And it is digital projection (not as nice picture quality as 35mm film) so if they did charge for admission, some folks might be disappointed!
And they do sell popcorn, snacks & drinks, so from what I've observed, they must make some good $$ there.
But it's always a great time - the 1200 seat theater is usually packed for the Stooges shows, with lots of families bringing the kids.

This was the film line-up this year:
Friday, Jan. 4, 2013:
Woman Haters
From Nurse To Worse
Restless Knights
All the World's a Stooge
Feulin' Around
Three Arabian Nuts
Pop Goes the Easel
Disorder in the Court

Saturday, Jan. 5:
Three Little Pigskns
Rhythm and Weep
Punch Drunks
Three Loan Wolves
Dopey Dicks
Baby Sitters Jitters
An Ache in Every Stake
No Census, No Feeling
