Fantastic.
I don't think I've ever seen that interview. It was only posted 2 weeks ago, and I'm not sure if it was on youtube in the past. I've certainly seen that same interviewer talk with Babe alone when ATOLL K was coming out.
They certainly look great, with Stan around 62 and Babe 60.
Stan mentions 26 years together, which would be 1952 assuming he counted from 1926. So you're right, it is not 1949. Plus, the interviewer does look a bit older than he did in the ATOLL K interview, which is strange since it is just a year or 2 later.
The interviewer must have seen just one L&H film -- THE FLYING DEUCES -- or perhaps that was his favorite, since he brings it up in the ATOLL K interview as well. Of all the great films they made, why single out THE FLYING DEUCES during an interview?
I'm glad to hear FRA DIAVALO was their favorite. I'm also glad they didn't call it THE DEVIL'S BROTHER. I can see why it would have been their favorite, since it was one of their most elaborate films (alongside BABES IN TOYLAND), and for 2 comedians who had spent the majority of their prime in one and two reelers, it must have felt like something special. Babe's list of favorites always included their features that had a big production, which strangely enough included SWISS MISS.
Interviews like this, and of this length, are few and far between for actors from the Golden Age, the exceptions being the actors who survived into the 60s, 70s, and beyond who would appear on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, or on The Dick Cavett Show, Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, etc.
Contrast that with today, where the latest fad actors are omnipresent on TikTok, youtube, Instagram, etc. They are unavoidable!
