Retroformat, Flicker Alley LLC, Lobster Films and Blackhawk Films are pleased to continue  #SilentMovieMondays! Each Monday night at 7:30PM PDT, we're screening silent films with special guests and real-time musical accompaniment by Retroformat Musical Director Cliff Retallick.

We are grateful to Suzanne Lloyd for generously providing us with her grandfather's three-reel thrill-comedy masterpiece, "Never Weaken," for this screening.  An essential watch and one of Harold Lloyd’s best short films, "Never Weaken" is an impressive example of the “thrill comedy"-- a genre Lloyd invented. Quick moving and suspenseful, "Never Weaken" was Lloyd’s last short film, released in October 1921. (Your kids will love it!)

While some of the onscreen action is the stuff of nightmares, Lloyd had such charm that he could even create hilarious comedy out of failed suicide. Pioneering stuntman Harvey Parry doubled for Lloyd in some of the most dangerous stunts, but Lloyd’s astonishing athletic ability is still on full display. His dexterity and even courage in the nail-biting climactic scene on top of a construction site are all the more remarkable considering that his right hand had recently been mangled in a studio accident.

Mildred Davis, who would soon become Lloyd's wife in real life, plays his fiancé. "Never Weaken" is a short film that matches the brilliance of Harold Lloyd’s best features.
