The Bank Dick (1940) - W.C. Fields
metaldams:
....and for anybody wanting to dig into Fields, here’s an 18 film set of all the Paramounts and Universal going for $28 and change as I type this. A steal and I do own this set.

Freddie Sanborn:
Fields *does* play a stereotypical slurring drunk in his first sound feature, Her Majesty Love, and the effect is disconcerting and un-Fieldsian, to say the least.

Interesting. Will have to check it out while not expecting prime Fields. One of his few films I’ve yet to see.
Dr. Mabuse:
"The Bank Dick" remains among the all-time great comedies. W.C. Fields calls the shots as the immortal Egbert Sousé while pulling a fast one on the Hays Office. Plenty of quotable dialogue, eccentric characters and a car chase for the ages. Along with "It's a Gift" and "Man on the Flying Trapeze," Fields' feature-length masterpiece.
10/10
Big Chief Apumtagribonitz:
Umbrella Sam, of the Fields Paramounts I've seen, my favorite, which hasn't been mentioned yet, is The Old Fashioned Way. It's Carny Fields rather than Henpecked Fields, and I enjoyed it very much. He's great, he juggles, and the supporting cast is excellent.
