I've never seen PHONEY CRONIES. I wonder what gives with the generic title cards.

That print is from a TV re-issue, likely from the 50s or 60s. This short was a bonus on the SWING PARADE OF 1946 DVD that Legend Films put out a few years ago.

Very thankful to the kind soul on YouTube who has upped all those solo shorts recently. I fear I'm in for a long wait before the Rare Treasures set comes to down to a decent price (being in the UK, shipping will add on a fair bit the total cost for me). Having only seen a few mediocre efforts featuring El Brendel and Andy Clyde (The Ring and the Belle, Ay Tank Ay Go), my thoughts on both are now much kinder. Brendel seemed to work a lot better as part of a double/triple act than on his own.

Just found this Charley Chase short:

Hello Everyone, I'm glad to be here.
I don't know if this is off topic, but I have been trying to collect the non-Stooge Columbia two-reelers. To date, as far as I know, there have been only 63 of these comedies released on various DVD's, including all 10 of Buster Keaton's comedies and all 20 of Charley Chase's. My question is, does anyone know if there are any others that have been released on DVD? A list of all of the ones that I know of is below:
Can anyone help add to this list?
(I know that there are many more available to be had on youtube, but I'm interested in legitimately released DVD's).
Thanks!

I've never seen PHONEY CRONIES. I wonder what gives with the generic title cards.

That's the standard intro for Official Films, a home-movie reissue company, dating from the 1940s I believe. I also have seen a version of "Glove Slingers" with that title format, and several of the Hal Roach Little Rascals shorts circulate with that intro. I wonder how much of the Columbia stuff they released, and if any "still missing or unaccounted for" titles could be found that way?

Talk about a thread that needs a revival.  I'll look for more shorts soon.

Good idea, Doug!  This thread definitely needs to be revived.  :)

BTW, I looked back at the first page of the thread and realized that most of the Youtube links in the posts were not working.  I looked into it and it's because the parameters for the tag changed at some point.  The ones I saw were entered as

Code: [Select]

Unfortunately, that sizing method doesn't work anymore.  Instead, you have to be more specific and use the parameter name in the tag, like this:

Code: [Select]

Incidentally, you don't have to specify both the width and height anymore, either.  You can just set either one and it will automatically set the other dimension size proportionally.  You can also just leave the sizing out altogether, but that tends to make the videos rather large, at least in my browser window.   ;)

Here are all of the optional parameters and values that you can use for all of the YouTube bbcodes in the toolbar when you make a post:
 • width = Specifies the width of the iframe area.
 • height = Specifies the height of the iframe area.
 • start = Specifies how far into the video to start at.  Valid formats: "Seconds" or "Minutes:Seconds"
 • end = Specifies how far into the video to stop at.  Valid formats: "Seconds" or "Minutes:Seconds"
 • autoplay = 1, yes, on or true
 • color = red or white
 • theme = dark or light
 • loop = 1, yes, on or true
 • controls = 0, no, off, hide or false
 • showinfo = 0, no, off, hide or false
 • iprivacy = 1, yes, on or true

There is also a new option under Profile => Look and Layout called Show YouTube videos as a link.  Checking this box makes the mod create links instead of embedded videos in your post.

I went through and modified all of the non-working Youtube tags that I saw on the first page of the thread, but you might want to check and fix any others that aren't working anymore.

Wow!  It's sad to realize how many of the videos linked in this thread are no longer available.  It's pathetic how copyrights have become so abused over the years that even shorts released over 75 years ago are still not in the public domain.   Fucking politicians.  >:(
