“Mr. Custer” is a novelty song, originally sung by Larry Verne. It was a number one Billboard hit song in the United States in October 1960 for one week … THEN … a man named Charlie Drake remade the song in the UK in 1962 … it reached #12 over the puddle (but his dry English accent made the whole song a weird experience) … THEN … 1969 add a big band, some sweet, sexy backup singers and Ray Stevens as the lead and you have… a whopping #8 on the Billboard charts (#of days there unknown by me) I don't think "Guitarzan" made #1 ... go figure
