Topic: Mankiewicz on Roach

The other day Ben Mankiewicz said on TCM that Hal Roach was previously associated with the Stooges. Was he correct or was he thinking of the "Little Rascals"? I think I would have remembered it if I ever saw his name on the credits.

I know that he writes his own dialog and reads it from a prompter so he couldn't have misspoke. Anyone know what "association" Roach shared with the 3 Stooges?
