Actor James Garner passed away yesterday at age 86. He is best known for his TV roles as Jim Rockford on "The Rockford Files", and the title character on "Maverick." Film credits included The Great Escape, Space Cowboys, and The Notebook.

I would say that behind Steve Mc Queen, Garner made the biggest splash as a TV actor in feature films in the sixties. Maverick was probably the most notable of the Warner Brothers westerns on ABC that included Cheyanne, Sugarfoot, Lawman and Bronco.

Did you know that Roger Moore did a stint as cousin Beau when Garner left the show to do movies? Here's an interesting article on the subject... The Early Westerns:

Here I am, a mere (almost) two months late on the topic.  But, as a big Rockford fan, I want to plug Jim Garner's memoirs, "The Garner Files."  I read them over the summer, and I enjoyed them.  My favorite part was the story, told by Mac Davis, about a golf outing with JG - - pretty funny.

Here's a 5 minute Talking Books reading from that bio.
