Anyone going to see the metal kings this summer?  I have tix for the family to see them at Summerfest in Milwaukee (July 4)!  My boys (ages 6 & 9) are pumped.  First show was tonight in charlotte, North carolina.  The setlist looks good, but I would love to see them play "Flight of Icarus"!  Oh well!  Up the Irons!

As for the setlist, it will be highly enjoyable, and the idea I will see Iron Maiden open with "Moonchild" gives me chills.  But now for the bitching - they really need to perform more songs from SOMEWHERE IN TIME!  I can go on and write a long paragraph about what songs I'd like to see in place of others, but when you have a catalog like Maiden's, they're bound to leave off favorites.  Still, kind of shocked to see "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" in there!  Can't wait for this show, the highlight of my summer, no doubt.

By the way, here's Alice's set list.  As big of a fan as I am of his, this will be cool, but I think I'm going to need to see him headline someday.  I like all the songs except "Feed My Frankenstein."  I hope the stage show kicks ass, and my gut tells me "Obama" and "Romney" will make appearances during the final song.

cool man.  This will be the 2nd time I see Alice (and he was pretty good live....though am not a huge fan).  And this will be my 6th Maiden tour!  It's gonna rule......

Had a swell time at the Milwaukee show.  Alice Cooper did a great job opening.  Maiden were very good, even with some sound glitches throughout (guitar feedback, Steves' Bass went out, and Bruce had a mic that was iffy for the 1st couple of songs).  They are as lively as ever, and I thought the set list was one of the better ones.....with some room for improvement.  The crowd seemed a little torpid (as it was about 90+F); and Bruce noted that even though Summerfest bills itself as the world's largest music festival, the Marcus Amphitheatre would only accomodate 2/3 of their equipment.  So he apologized for not having the full on setup and urged the crowd to head to Chicago on the 5th (today) for the full show.

Overall a great show and my two boys have seen there 1st ever concert.  And so now on, everything else they see on stage will be a letdown......I started them out at the top and now it's ever downward.........until there next Maiden show!!!

It was real humid at my show too.  I don't know how the hell Maiden do it.  They are 55 years old and they run around the stage like a bunch of 20 year olds.  There were flames shooting up on stage and all this pyro in that heat, they must've been dying up there.  Bruce even mentioned the heat and wrung out his shirt which was absolutely drenched in sweat.

I thought it took a few songs for Maiden to catch fire, (I'd say "Afraid to Shoot Strangers," the 4th song, was when they hit a groove), but once they found that groove, they were awesome.  Alice was great too, and both Alice and Maiden had great sound.  You could make out every lyric, the bass was clear, just a really great mix.

What shocked me was how the Iron Maiden fans outnumbered the Alice fans.  I get Maiden is popular, but Alice is a legend.  One guy behind me tried starting a "We want Maiden" chant during Alice's set and I just gave him a dirty look and admonished him for disrespecting a legend.  I've been to dozens of shows and saw plenty of opening acts who deserve that treatment, myself being guilty of giving Static X the "Slayer" treatment, but Alice deserves way better.

Still, I had a great time and I'm glad you and your sons did as well.

When I saw Maiden in '99, Clutch opened and the crowd was not too warm for them.  I also saw Halford and Queensryche and I can tell you that the crowd wasn't too familiar with the Halford band stuff (though I was).  That said, when they went into "Hellion/Electric Eye," the place went beserk.

Lauren Harris?  Let me guess, the music stunk, but the crowd was somewhat respectful because she's nice to look at and more importantly, she's Steve Harris's daughter.

The guy who replaced K.K. Downing in Priest used to play guitar for her.  I betcha you saw him.  The guys in Priest are my parent's age, and it's weird to think they now have a guitarist slightly younger than me!

Quality!!!!  I think it's funny you saw them for the 1st time one week before I saw them for the 1st time.....I was supposed to go to a "No Prayer on the Road" show back in '91, but being a broke college kid, I couldn't afford it.....made that 1st show all that much sweeter!

....an old friend of mine actually caught Maiden in 1990 on the tour you almost saw.  That was his first Maiden show.

I don't know if they played it at your show, as I understand they dropped it from the set early in the tour, but I saw them play "Stranger in a Strange Land," which they barely played after 1987.  I think I was at the first American show with Bruce since the Fear of the Dark tour.  They did not play Philly, so a friend and I drove up to New York City.  I haven't been to NYC since, and that was 13 years ago!  The Blaze Bayley era was actually my high school era Maiden.

No they did not play that one in Milwaukee.  Which is too bad, as that is my 2nd favorite song of that album!
