The Two Tars Tent (Philadelphia area) of the Sons of the Desert, the Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society, will hold its Spring banquet on April 22, 2005, at the Canstatter Club in Philadelphia PA.  The Two Tars will welcome actress Beverly Garland * as its special guest for the event.  Ms. Garland will be available during the film showing to personally autograph photographs; there will be a fee attached.  The evening will also feature a 16mm screening of Laurel & Hardy’s AIR RAID WARDENS (1943).

The registration fee for the banquet is only $25 per person, payable to "The Two Tars Tent," due by April 15.  Mail (with a copy of this message) to:  The Two Tars Tent, c/o Phyllis Reighter, 10220 Calera Road, Philadelphia PA  19114.

* Beverly Garland has appeared in 41 feature films and nearly 700 television programs.  Ms. Garland's film debut was a supporting role in the 1950 classic D.O.A. starring Edmund O'Brien.  Her television career started the same year with appearances in a variety of dramas that led to starring roles in PLAYHOUSE 90 and the LUX VIDEO THEATER.  She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1954 for her co-starring role with Lee Marvin in MEDIC.  In 1957, she made television history becoming the first actress to star in the title role of a dramatic series as a NYPD officer.  She has been a regular in eight television series such as Bing Crosby's wife in his series, Fred MacMurray's wife in MY THREE SONS, Kate Jackson's mother in SCARECROW AND MRS. KING and Teri Hatcher's mother in LOIS AND CLARK: THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.

Her feature films range from dramatic hits THE JOKER IS WILD with Frank Sinatra, DESPERATE HOURS with Humphrey Bogart, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD with Peter Graves and THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE with Lon Chaney, Jr.  She made such classic Westerns as GUNSLINGER with John Ireland and WHERE THE FERN GROWS with James Whitmore.  In 1983, Beverly was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  To mark her 50 years in show business, the city of Los Angeles proclaimed January 19, 2001 as "Beverly Garland Day."
