Joe Simon, co-creator of Captain America with Golden Age partner Jack Kirby, has died at age 98.  With Kirby on layouts and pencils, Simon was the team's writer and inker.  After leaving Timely (aka Marvel) in early 1942, they created the Newsboy Legion and Boy Commandos for DC, and reimaged floundering characters Sandman and Manhunter as action-oriented superheroes.
