Have you guys ever seen these?  Are any of you guys these guys?  Anyway, I haven't yet checked out to see how far along they got, but there's at least 20 reviews of Stooge shorts posted on you tube.  I may not always agree with them, though sometimes I do, but this a cool concept.  Here's the first two short reviews, and you guys can search for the others.

Guys, I've watched every one up until RESTLESS KNIGHTS, and the series is fun so far, and if you'll notice, I'm even leaving comments on you tube, the first time I ever posted you tube comments for anything.  THE THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS review is nice, the next two they don't favor so much, but I posted my comments responding to them.

I really hope some of you guys check these vids out and search for the others.  This kind of dialogue was why I initially enjoyed posting on Stooge boards in the first place, and this video idea is put a smile on my face and made me want to watch these films again, for the 500th time.

.....and the POP GOES THE EASEL review is excellent.  OK, I've watched enough of these for now, will definitely watch more later.

I've seen these. It's a good concept. I haven't watched all of them, but they are worthwhile.

Offline metaldams

The last review I can find is DIZZY DOCTORS, and that was back in May.  Let's hope they keep the series up, and since they seem to be intent on people commenting and subscribing, I hope some (all) of you guys will do so.

New installment posted in case anybody is following this.

They're pretty much on about this one. Middle of the road Stooges. CLUCKS might have peaked early on with the jail scene.

UP IN DAISY'S PENTHOUSE was a little better for me.

I agree with this except I think UP IN DAISY'S PENTHOUSE is about the same level.

I've watched all 22 of these things so far and they plan to go all the way.

By the way, one guess who the guy is they mentioned who said Del Lord directed a lot of their best shorts.   ;D  I guess I have to leave my mark somehow on this earth.

You were honestly the first person I thought of when I heard that.

That would be appropriate ;-)

I wasn't expecting that kind of enthusiasm for WHOOPS I'M AN INDIAN. It's more of a mid tier Curly for me. One of the guys says it is or is close to his favorite to this point. That's fine, it's not like it's bad by any means... but for me, I could think of several shorts to this point I'd take over WHOOPS.... BEERS, PIGSKINS, PULLMAN, POLLOI, SCOTCH... just name a few. And of course False Alarms ;-)

These guys do have great accents.

Yeah, I thought they were WAY too rough on HORSES' COLLARS.  I admit it's not one of the great Stooge shorts, but they were treating it like it's the nadir of all Stooge films.  It will take a while, but i can't wait to see those Besser reviews if they think that one is bad.

I always thought of WHOOPS, I'M AN INDIAN as above average but not among the greats like HOI POLLOI or THREE LITTLE BEERS (the latter I like more than they do), but guess what, I'm actually watching these shorts in order again and have two more to go before INDIAN, so I will try to watch this short with new enthusiasm.

Yeah, this is an enjoyable series, and it doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with their opinions, it's two guys bullshitting about The Three Stooges, and the world needs more of this.

Yeah, I like the accents too, makes me wonder if they're Sox fans.

These guys aren't bad (and I'd guess they might be from NY) but are they good to keep me interested through 190 reviews? I don't know about that.

So far so good, but if they take this thing slowly, there's a chance they can sustain it.  I don't know how ANYBODY could keep this interesting once they get to the endless Shemp remakes, but with new directors, WWII, a sick Curly, and Shemp coming up, it should be interesting for a while.

I've checked out a handful of the reviews so far. I realize that no two people are going to agree on everything, but I'm shocked at their utter dislike of Grips Grunts and Groans [definitely in my top five, and possibly in my top three].  They're already being fairly critical of films from what I consider to be the Stooges' "golden age" [1936-1941], so it will be interesting to see how they rate some of the films from the early to mid '40's [some real stinkers in there] and I'm REAL curious to see how they handle the "sick Curly" films; believe it or not, I know a few people who claim to have seen each Stooge film a million times, but had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the decline of Curly, and couldn't see the difference when I showed them the films.....

I think GRIPS, GRUNTS, AND GROANS is a poor man's PUNCH DRUNKS, and I realize you're not alone in liking this short.  I don't flat out hate it, but I think the boys (well, stunt doubles), knocking down the baby carriage is a bit tasteless and think most of the gags fall flat.  I always thought Bustoff was an annoying character as well.  The two best things about GRIPS, GRUNTS, AND GROANS are the Wild Hyacinth gag and the ending, which is brilliant.

As far as the golden era, I would say around 1938 - 1943.  It was when Curly was healthy and at his peak, both production units were up and running, and Jules and Del were both trading off masterpieces.  I think the 1937 shorts in general were a bit average until THE SITTER DOWNERS.

I've just started to watch their reviews, I'm liking them so far.

Just finished Punch Drunks, they did a nice job going over what works so
well in that one.

Thanks for suggesting these guys Metal.

I have to agree and disagree. SADDLES, CLUCKS, and PONIES were decent, but not great. Basically average. WOODS was one of the worst Curly's of ANY year. But GROANS was above average for me. CASH AND CARRY is one of my favorite Curly shorts. And DIZZY DOCTORS, for me, was not only one of the better Curly shorts... but one of the best Stooge shorts, period. A short I'd "sell the Stooges on."

Personal preferences matter a lot with these shorts.

Offline metaldams

CASH AND CARRY is one of my favorite Curly shorts.

Y'know, I actually watched this one last night and it's a lot better than what I remember.  It works for two reasons, one being the Stooges are very likeable in their kindness to the boy (beats knocking down a baby carriage and running away), and more importantly, they are working with tools for extended periods of time, and The Three Stooges and tools is always a good combination.

OK, so CASH AND CARRY and THE SITTER DOWNERS are the two classic 1937 shorts.  The others have their moments, but feel very average to me.  I really think the shorts got re-energized when Hugh McCullom and Charley Chase joined the shorts department.

I'm going against the grain, but I liked FLAT FOOT STOOGES. I love all those exterior shots of them trying to get to the fire in the second half of the short. Trying to get the mouse earlier in the short was fun as well. Good performances by Dick Curtis and Lola Jensen.

FALSE ALARMS, CASH AND CARRY, and GRIPS are probably my top three [THE SITTER DOWNERS has never done much for me at all]. As for the crashing into the baby carriage, I'll borrow a quote from one of my co-workers: "It *IS* a bit hardcore, but then again, I'm a bit hardcore myself, so I like it!". Truthfully, to me the scene doesn't seem too harsh because you're always aware of the fact that there are no actual babies in the carriage. Compare that to the.... ahem... "gag" from about nine years later that actually shows a real baby with the barrel of a gun in his mouth, and then the earlier scene doesn't seem quite as bad!!

Your kidding?? The skit where curly gets his feet stuck in the cement, and where hes stuck up in the tree is comedy gold. The short always cracks me up.

THE SITTER DOWNERS is a great short for me. I admit personal preferences may vary, even wildly, but that's not a short I see getting knocked all that often.

THE SITTER DOWNERS is great pretty much for the reason I stated for CASH AND CARRY, the boys and tools are a great combo.  Plus the wives are great, the outdoor setting is great, the boys are all in top form, and the pace is fast.  I've loved THE SITTER DOWNERS since I was a kid.

I wouldn't consider FALSE ALARMS top 3, but I like that one a lot.  The gun in the mouth gag, that would be what, THREE LOAN WOLVES?  It's been a while, but I remember that one has lots of Larry, which should make for an interesting review if these guys get that far.

Yep, THREE LOAN WOLVES. Lots of Larry, to make up for lack of Curly [incidentally, if I recall, that's one of the very FEW films where Moe addresses Curly by his name: "Curly and I are going to lunch- come on, Curly"].

I'm guessing the two New York/New Jersey/New England brothers will eventually get around to reviewing ALL the films; they seem like they're huge fans [they MUST be to devote the time they have to this project]. I howled when one of the Youtube commenters referred to them as father and son!
