What happens to someone's username when they get banned? What would happen if someone new tried to
join and picked the name of someone banned; what would happen to them?

Once a username is chosen by a new member at registration it becomes unavailable to anyone else, unless the account gets deleted later on.  Even then, if the person was banned before the account gets deleted, the admins would have to remember to manually find the ban on the username and delete that as well, which just ain't gonna happen.

Why would anyone want to take the handle of a banned member? I don't see anyone wanting to be the next Islipp.

I was thinking of a new member choosing the name by coincidence.

I think a warning comes up telling them the username is not available.
