April 1 The Warner Archive added remastered versions of Abbott & Costello's RIO RITA (1942) and ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET CAPTAIN KIDD (1952) to its online catalog.

KIDD's remaster is taken from a UCLA restoration print. Original Cinecolor elements were found in the UK by Bob Furmanek almost 20 years ago, and the restoration had a UCLA premiere about 10 years ago. I attended the east coast premiere of the restoration at the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern NY a few years ago, and the print was amazing. Not one of A&C's best, but it is much better than its reputation... and, the sight of Charles Laughton ably doing doubletakes and pratfalls is hilarious.

Great news indeed. Been waiting for these 2 for years. My A & C collection will now be complete. Just wish we could get a good release of Jack and the Beanstalk with a restored print.
