Shemp_Diesel, thanks for posting that Floyd song from THE FINAL CUT. I really enjoyed it and have always wanted to hear that period of Pink Floyd. My understanding is that's Floyd's "Roger Waters solo album."

For a kind of sort of Pink Floyd connection, here's KISS doing their oddball career curveball in "A World Without Heroes." Why a Pink Floyd connection? This one's from 1981, and after his huge success with THE WALL, KISS thought they'd get producer Bob Ezrin (who previously worked with them on DESTROYER), to produce a concept album for them! I'm a KISS fan and I like this, but let's just say this ain't your Daddy's KISS. From the MUSIC FROM THE ELDER album, their worst selling all-time.

I second the plaudits for Andy Summers and Steward Copeland. The Police really kick-started my appreciation of music when I discovered them in high school (a few years after they broke up), and it was mostly from paying attention to what these two were playing. Listening to Copeland was the first time I started paying attention to a song beyond just the basic tune and noticing the cool things a drummer can do. The guy makes even 4/4 sound interesting. And Summers is still one of my favorite guitarists. His solo work has been a lot more interesting than Sting's, IMO (although unlike a lot of folks on here I enjoy a lot of what Sting's done post-Police - his Soul Cages album is an evocative work of art).

Crowded House are another favorite. They only managed to break one single through in the States ("Don't Dream It's Over"), but they achieved a lot more success everywhere else, and justly so. Niel Finn is one of our best songwriters, one of those guys that other musicians point to when asked to list their influences, and still putting out great stuff today. I think his writing has gotten better with the years, but since this is an '80s thread:

Shame indeed. It's an '80s icon, but it's so ubiquitous I figured it needed no re-introduction. Dolby's put out a lot of excellent tunes that most people haven't heard, so figured I'd post one of his lesser known tracks. I've always loved "One of Our Submarines" - very atmospheric.

Cinderella, "Nobody's Fool," one of my guilty pleasures.

Call me crazy, but I like 80's girls. The hair was teased, the boobs were real, the legs were long and fishnetted, the skirts were short, and the tattoos were kept to a minimum. Perhaps I like that because it was the late 80's and early 90's (the 90's did not officially begin until 1992) when I started noticing girls and that's what they looked like.

Glad you posted some Hornsby, too. Shows what a dweeb I was in high school that I was listening to Bruce Hornsby albums while the other kids were spinning Def Leppard and M.C. Hammer.
