Glad you like Reaper, False.  Here's some more BOC, and my favorite deep Elton track, while we're on Elton John.

Stooge and Confused, you mentioned Joe Jackson earlier.  Never knew much by him...

Joe Jackson's biggest hit (before his NIGHT & DAY album) was, & still is, also one of my favorites of his:

But far & away my favorite Joe Jackson album was JUMPIN' JIVE, an album of Louis Jordan swing tunes from the 1930s.

The 2nd song was on an album actually released in 1981, as far as I know. Close to, but not quite the 70s, but timeless music nonetheless.

I recall BOC's "Reaper" was THE jam in my high school days. I have the rare sleeve for their only other charting single "Burnin' For You" in my book. The sleeve is quite rare!

As for Elton John, I do enjoy quite a bit of his stuff, but "Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters" has got to be my fave. I do like "I've Seen That Movie, Too" a lot, and the entire "GOODBYE YELLOWBRICK ROAD" LP is a winner!

One of the best 70s "one hit wonder" songs from The George Baker Selection..."LITTLE GREEN BAG". It's a gasser!

Thanks for sharing, never heard that song, it was very good. I looked to see if it was on his greatest hits, and it wasn't. Very surprising.  ???

This is one of my favorites! Just the kind of weird unusual stuff that has always appealed to me, different from the boring mainstream junk being played on AM radio back then.
By the way I don't think The George Baker Selection should be considered a "one hit wonder" (a term I never liked anyway) as they did have another hit: "Paloma Blanca" in 1975.

"Little Green Bag" was such an instant favorite of mine that I bought the album too (at that time the only way to get the long version of the song) and their next two 45's on the Colossus label. Then later in 1975 when they came back on Warner Bros. Records with the hit "Paloma Blanca" I got that and their second WB 45 and LP, too.

The original "Little Green Bag" 45 also has one of my all-time favorite B-sides: "Pretty Little Dreamer" (not on LP). I once made a tape of favorite 45 B-sides and led it off with that one.

Stooge and Confused, that IS a great Elton song, thanks for posting that!  Curly4444, "Your Song" is probably my favorite of Elton's hits, good choice.

S&C also mentioned how "Burnin' For You" was the other BOC charting hit, so I guess that would technically make "them two hit wonders."  The funny thing is the two hits are 5 years apart and BOC were consistently touring and releasing albums successfully, and were also able to maintain a loyal fan base, so again, it's unfair to judge them by number of hits.  This reminded me of something we hit upon in the 60's thread when discussing Procul Harum, and Blue Oyster Cult is another great example.  Great band.

For a humorous link between BOC and Elton John, I have a live recording of BOC, and during some extended jam, singer Eric Bloom is doing a rap with the crowd.  He mentions how one day he's going to be in the home for old rockers sitting in his wheelchair hitting on the nurses with Elton John.  A cool thing to say in 1974, but with 2011 knowledge, very comical for obvious reasons.  I let out a huge laugh when I first heard that!

It was hard to choose with such greats as, Levon, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle In The Wind, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word(second Favorite), Island Girl, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Sad Songs (Say So Much), The One(third fav), Blessed, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Circle Of Life, etc...

I love this song...it's cheesy as hell, but I like it anyway. I used to roller skate at the rink to this while zooming the girls. It's the only pop hit with a xylophone solo!-LOL!

I don't know why, but I've always been a little embarrassed to admit I like Elton John's music. Here's one from 1975 -

And nice to see other 70's songs like CRUEL TO BE KIND and VENTURA HIGHWAY posted. Great ones.

What do you have against female singers stoogedandconfused?? I didn't like that first one, but Debbie Boone had a wonderful voice. The songs dated with its arrangement, but her voice still shines thru.

Im assuming you don't like the carpenters also?

I think Karen Carpenter has one of the most beautiful voices ever, but even though Debby Boone can sing, that song sucks ass!

Another fine female singer is Olivia Newton John..I had a MAJOR crush on her in Jr High and High School. Here she is with her debut single-a cover of Bob Dylan's "If Not For You"

Here's a great example of Karen's voice..the songs were light but she had a great voice (and was a reasonable drummer to boot).
