The generations met when David Bowie was the guest on BING CROSBY'S MERRIE OLDE CHRISTMAS (1977), taped a few weeks before Der Bingle's death, and aired posthumously.

Not from TV, but it became a TV tradition on Bob Hope's Christmas specials, and a holiday standard. From THE LEMON DROP KID (1951), Bob Hope, Marilyn Maxwell and William "Bub" Frawley premiere "Silver Bells."

The Bowie-Bing clip is great, especially "older guys" like John Lennon.

I hadn't heard that Sandler song in ages, but it's fantastic.

Yeah, the crowd reponded to that comic song like it was 'Freebird'! BTW....I will tell you about someone that you all think is Jewish but is not: Valerie Harper :o

BEWITCHED "Sisters at Heart" (1970)

In retrospect, a simplistic and somewhat saccharin story about racism, predating the premiere of Norman Lear's ALL IN THE FAMILY by less than 1 month. The episode was "daring" for its day, well-received, and picked up some awards.

It's guest actor Parley Baer who carries the story... an underrated, personable actor who never broke out of a [very prolific] TV career as a comedic character actor. Baer effectively costarred with Marlon Brando in THE YOUNG LIONS (1958); it's too bad a film career didn't take off after that.

Here's a good Christmas-themed song, CHRISTMAS CANON by TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.
