The previous deal is now dead -- the set is back up to 54 dollars on Amazon.

Now, this is one that I've held out on.  I may actually buy this one, now.

I almost bought this @ Sam's Club for $53 last Saturday.  ...I didn't because I knew I could find it priced less somewhere....
thanks for the tip.
I ordered Little Rascals from Amazon.

How is this the complete collection when the 1938–1944 years are missing?

JR.com is now out of stock on this item. Amazon still has it at 26.99.

Some people had some complaints about this set... i.e something like 13 out of 80 used Blackhawk prints. But at this price range, who cares? The 1938-1944 era stuff is at the Warner Archive.

How is this the complete collection when the 1938–1944 years are missing?

This same topic went round-and-round a couple years ago, when this DVD set came out, and at misc. times before that...

"Our Gang" is the name of the series that ran from 1922 - 1944.

"The Little Rascals" is a name given to Hal Roach Studio's "Our Gang" comedies of 1929 - 1938, when they were syndicated to TV in the 1950s. These 1929 - 1938 "Our Gang" comedies comprise exactly what the DVD set was marketed to be, "The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection."

Roach sold his "Our Gang" property to MGM in 1938. The MGM shorts of 1938 - 1944 were never labeled or packaged theatrically/TV-syndicated as anything but "Our Gang." As Ryan mentioned above, a complete collection of these shorts was made available last year thru The Warner Archive.

The silent 1922 - 1929 "Our Gang" shorts were also never distributed under "The Little Rascals" label. Many are public domain, some are available on niche video labels, some are available as bonus features on [official] collections, and TCM will show many over a 14-hour block on January 5, 2011.

Oh!  I never knew the MGM shorts from "Our Gang" were officially released.  Cool!  I may need to go ahead and get both sets.  Well, provided the money holds out.

Moe:  Did you say money?

Curly:  I remember the stuff!

I don't think any of us who buy things avoids the deal that follows our initial purchase. I did buy this when Amazon offered it for $53 and thought it was a good price for the amount of content (even with those 16 mm Blackhawk transfers). $27 is a steal, and of course, I'd love to have gotten it for that, but if you enjoy what you buy, then the price you pay is justified for the pleasure it brings you.

I also missed out on the bargain price for both Marx Brothers sets. I recall paying $49 for each. Oh, well.

The A&C set is great for $48 bucks, but all I need is "It Ain't Hay" and it's not worth it to re-buy just for that film. I agree that A&C MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN is a solid effort. Not as good as FRANKENSTEIN, but quite enjoyable as far as the "MEET" series goes.

Oh, and I remember getting the 5 season of DICK VAN DYKE before they were offered as a set and they were pricey!

I think the only deal I got was for the remastered Stooges sets, so it balances out in the end.

I'm excited about seeing these. I've seen a few, but not in a long time. I had eyed this set for awhile but couldn't pass it up in this range.

If you missed out, Id put it in your wish list to keep track of it. Amazon raises and lowers stuff all the time. I was interested in a tom and jerry set, and missed out on a real cheap price(the set doubled in price). A few weeks later the set was super cheap again.

Does TCM have any plans to re-air the silent shorts at any point in the future?

Thanks for the heads-up. *Sigh*...... I ordered a set yesterday, although I have no idea why. I guess it was the price, and even THAT shouldn't have made me buy it.  It WILL be nice to watch the films in chronological order for a change [each tape in the VHS set had the shorts in total random order]. I remember reading a few years ago when Amazon was selling this set at a major discount, it was rumored that it possibly meant another release [with restored titles on all prints] would be forthcoming, but that hasn't happened so far.  Next up will be a purchase of those horrible post-38 MGM Our Gangs from the Warner Archive.

Yes, it has.

Early 2011, Vivendi repackaged this as 7 individual budget-priced volumes.  The Blackhawk title issues from the box set were corrected.

Just cancelled my order, and will [eventually] order the corrected versions. I can't thank you enough, Brent, for making me aware of this!!!
