Voiceover actor Art Gilmore died Sept. 25 at age 98.

From the early 1940s thru the late 1970s, his familiar voice could be heard narrating trailers for Warner Bros., Paramount, United Artists, narrating short subjects like WB's Hollywood-produced Vitaphones, a long tenure as the regular narrator/commentator on WB's 1940s-1950s "Joe McDoakes" comedies, TV announcer (e.g., THE RED SKELTON HOUR, HIGHWAY PATROL, G.E. THEATER), and hundreds more credits.

Rarely a day goes by that his voice cannot be heard on TCM.

Occasionally, he worked in front of the camera too. Like a lot of other voice actors, he became a stock member of Jack Webb's productions. On TV's DRAGNET, 1950s & 1960s versions, he usually appeared as a Division Capt./Lt.
