My agent just informed me that Harold Gould died Saturday, September 11 from cancer. Probably best known either as Kid Twist in THE STING or as Valerie Harper's father on the RHODA series, Hal was a long-time member of my theatre company, Theatre West. I saw him at a memorial service a couple of months ago and he was very frail. He was in hospice for only a day or so before his death.
In addition to RHODA and THE STING, he had a long-running, recurring role on THE GOLDEN GIRLS as Miles. Adept at drama and comedy, he was memorable in episodes of GET SMART, THE WILD WILD WEST, HAWAII FIVE-O ("V For Vashon!"), HOGAN'S HEROES, THE FUGITIVE, many more. Trivia masters may also know him as the original Howard Cunningham in HAPPY DAYS' pilot episode.
I had the pleasure to meet him two years ago at the Friends of Old Time Radio Convention in NJ. A very nice man.
