The best thing that happened to the Dallas Plowboys this year was Wade Phillips getting canned. I saw they won their first game without him. They would have never been more than mediocre at best with him as head coach. Same as when he was head coach here in Denver for a few years back in the mid 1990s. I venture to say if he is hired as a head coach anywhere else, the results will be the same.

I'm enjoying all these tight division races this year. Looks like that elusive "parity" the NFL is always trying to find.

As a Bills fan I suffered through three years of Wade. The guy is an idiot and has no business in the NFL. I smelt disaster as soon as Dallas hired him. Keep in mind, this was the guy who decided to start an unproven Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie in our last playoff game. Later on Johnson was proven to be a joke and Flutie was left dreaming of what could have been. That was our last great team and Wade screwed it up. Goodbye again Wade and never, ever come back.

PS WERE OFF THE SCHNIDE....1-8 BABY. THANK YOU DETROIT.

I am just now starting to breathe again after the Pats/Colts game.

I really don't know how much "parity" there really is, in the AFC anyway. The Patriots, Jets, Ravens and Steelers are almost locks to get in the playoffs. The only questions are will the Colts and Chargers represent their respective divisions or will new challengers like Kansas City or Jacksonville step up and overthrow them?

The NFC is a different story, much more wide open. Who here thinks the NFC West Champ will be under .500?

Atlanta, Kansas City and Tampa Bay, I don't see them winning any of these. If one of the teams with losing records beat them, Carolina, St. Louis or San Francisco beats them, that will put them under 500.

Sometimes society makes me sick.  Why is the media making such a big fuss over the fact that Jets coach Rex Ryan allegedly has a wife who does foot fetish porn?  Why is this a big deal, and what does it have to do with him as a coach?  Why is it anybody's business?  People need to learn to live and let live, him and his wife are not harming anybody.

I totally agree, but I think it's fuckin' hilarious. It's really nobody's business but the Ryan's. I hope it distracts them come playoff time so they'll be one and done.

When things go downhill, it seems they start to snowball. Not only do my hometown Denver Donkeys suck big time this year, but the morning news today has added a fourth player to the list of those in trouble with the law. One for getting caught driving drunk not once, but twice, & the other three for domestic violence.

If this keeps up, we'll have to call it the National Felons League.

Not only do my hometown Denver Donkeys suck big time this year, ...

I had to laugh the other day when I was flipping through the channels and the "newscasters" on one of the Detroit stations were almost hysterical with glee because the Lions finally won a road game, breaking a 26-road game losing streak (since 2007, apparently.)  I think it was also the first time in years that they've won two games in a row.   ::)

I know, I know!  I wasn't even going to watch the Seattle/NO game, and it was very good!

I was cheering for the Jets, too. We (The Steelers) will get to play the winner of the Baltimore/KC game.

It would bad both sad and hysterical if Seattle won the whole thing.

Well the Eagles play at 4:30 today, and all I gotta say is I'm glad I'm still not working at the chicken wing joint.  That place got amazingly busy during Eagles games and the Super Bowl.  We'd usually do over $10,000 of business in one day on the Super Bowl and run out of wings.

Assuming that the Chiefs/Ravens score will hold up here it's only apropos that the AFC come down to the Patriots/Steelers/Ravens/Jets because those have been the four best AFC teams all year (and a good case can be made for them being the four best NFL teams all year). I was stunned by the Seahawks beating the Saints and loved the Onion headline "Saints Lose First Round Bye". If Seattle were to somehow win the Super Bowl it would do more harm than good.

Remember a couple of years back when the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series? They did so with a record of 83-78, the worst record ever for a World Series winner. Folks did not take kindly to an almost .500 team winning the World Series: most reacting with either apathy or disgust. So a 7-9 Seattle team winning a playoff game or two makes a great story but winning the Super Bowl would probably be considered sad by most.

Here's to a Patriots/Seahawks Super Bowl.

The 2006 Cardinals is the exact analogy I was thinking.  I remember Boston didn't even make the playoffs that year winning only 86 games, having shit pitching and injuries up the wazoo (you know it's a bad year when your top pitching prospect is getting treated for cancer), yet a worse team ended up winning it all.  Yeah, I was pissed.

Of course it would suck if Seattle won.  The jerk in me would find it funny, but overall, I wouldn't feel it's justified.  You'd think something like that would make the NFL re-think how they do things, but then again, with all these wild cards, you get more games, which equals more ratings, which equals more advertising, which equals more money, so I guess they won't.

Seattle will not even come close to winning it all. Dont worry theyll blow it by double didgets next week against Chicago or the following week at Atlanta.

To defend the NFL they are actually good on playoff percentages compared to some other sports. With the exception of the 1982 strike shortened season in which the playoffs were expanded to 8 teams from the usual 5 of the era and the Browns and Lions made the playoff cut with records of 4-5, this is the first time a team with a losing record has made the playoffs.

When you break down the major sports leagues and compare how many teams make the playoffs to how many teams are in the league the NFL comes out looking pretty good.

MLB: 8 out of 30 teams make the playoffs: 26.6%
NFL: 12 out of 32 teams make the playoffs: 37.5%
NBA: 16 out of 30 teams make the playoffs: 53.3%
NHL: 16 out of 30 teams make the playoffs: 53.3%

NBA and NHL have below .500 teams in the playoffs on a regular basis.

The NBA's playoff system is ridiculous. There is no need for that many playoff teams, it almost makes the first round of the playoffs irrelevant. You already know whose gonna advance to the second round. I think only once has a 8 seed beaten a 1 seed and that was Golden State beating Dallas a few years back. Of course, Goden State still didnt get past the second round. In the NFL a losing team making  the playoffs is rare, in NBA it happens every year and its a joke.

NBA and NHL have below .500 teams in the playoffs on a regular basis.

When the 76ers first moved to Philadelphia from Syracuse, 6 of 9 NBA teams made the playoffs (66.7%).  When the Flyers and others joined the NHL, the league went from 4 of 6 to 8 of 12, also 66.7%.  And the NHL had 16 of 21 teams (76.2%) make the playoffs for a dozen years, mostly with the usual suspects missing out.

But it's still better than when 10% of baseball teams and 14.3% of NFL teams made the playoffs in the 1960s.  Then again, bowling leagues are like that, as you have to finish first in either half (or third) to qualify for a championship.

Since none of the teams I root for made the NFL playoffs, I'm just sitting back and
watching the games. I hope they continue to be entertaining.

Colts/Jets, Saints/Seahawks and Eagels/Packers were all good games.

The Division round has some great matchups, Steelers/Ravens and Patrios/Jets
in the AFC are just overflowing with bad blood on both sides. I'm looking foward
to some hard hitting stuff.

I hope the Bears beat the Seahawks cause it would be very ugly seeing them make it
to the NFC Championship Game.

Falcons/Packers should be very good, Packers have what it takes to win so Falcons
better play their best.

I think the Seahawks will make a good game of it but will stop short of saying they will beat the Bears later today. Some people like to point out that they did beat Chicago during the season, at Soldier Field no less: but I think it will make it that much harder for them. It is difficult to beat any team twice in a season, never mind twice in their house. I do think they will cover the double digit point spread though. I don't think it would be a travesty if Seattle went to NFC Championship. If they went to the Super Bowl it would be disappointing and if they won the Lombardi Trophy it would be closer to a travesty.

I'm predicting Patriots/Steelers in the AFC and Bears/Packers in the NFC.

Forget playoffs its the same teams it is every year. I just hope Buffalo can make a good draft pick for once. Cam Newton maybe.....I mean I like Fitzpatrick but hes not a franchise qb we can rely on for years to come....and we need that. Go Bills! Its lookin like Buffalo next year.

You got the Bears/Packers right. The Steelers pulled it out yesterday but the Pats are going to have to step it up because they're down 14-3 at half-time.

What a shocker! With the Patriots out of it, I think the Super Bowl is up for grabs now. I'd like to see a Bears/Jets Super Bowl but I do believe it will be the Packers against the Steelers.

I think the Packers are on fire right now. They looked unstoppable.

Having said that....GO STEELERS!!!!!

...as if all of Pittsburgh has been put into even more of a football frenzy. It's what we grow up with. High school games on Friday night, college on Saturdays, and family and the Steelers on Sunday. I'd bet that only 5% of the population here, maybe even less, doesn't like football.

I'm rooting for the "Stillers", too. Is the game being played in "duntun" Pittsburgh?
