For right now, the best copies of the silents available are through http://www.reelclassicdvd.com/ and http://grapevinevideo.com/

Reelclassicdvd offers a variety of completely restored and remastered public domain films. From what I hear, the quality on their releases are excellent.

Grapevine released 14 volumes of silent Our Gang shorts on VHS a long time ago. The quality on most of the films wasn't so hot, and a number of the films were incomplete TV prints. However in recent years Grapevine has gotten hold of better equipment, as well as better a wider selection of films. They did release a DVD of Our Gang silents around 2006 (with great quality), and I've heard that they plan on releasing more Our Gang DVDs in the near future.

Another company http://www.a-1video.com/ also offers five volumes of Our Gang silents. The quality on these isn't great, but some of the films that are harder to find are available.

And from what I hear, all three of the people running these different companies are all very nice guys, so business is easy, and always well received.

There's a little more to it than that.  When Hal Roach left the series, he sold the title "Our Gang" and the rights to continue the series to MGM.  When the Hal Roach produced shorts hit syndication, they were re-titled "The Little Rascals" because Roach was no longer the legal owner of the title.

It's an interesting read.

Thanks Final Shemp.  That article does clear up a lot of things.
