Shemp's Trademark Cry

(1/1)

12Medbe:
Hey guys,

I was wondering how Shemp's trademark cry of "Heep Heep Heep!" (or Eeb Eeb Eeb), started. Did that Trademark cry start before Shemp started with the Stooges Again in '47? I didn't see the films Shemp was in with Ted Healy and His Stooges, Did he ever use his trademark cry in those films?

Otherwise, I find Shemp's "Heep Heep Heep's!" to be pretty comediclly entertaining

Shemp:
I've not seen/heard him use this elsewhere, but I haven't watched all his other works.

What I find most interesting about this "cry" he makes is that it is done while sucking air in, not out!  I have yet to meet or see anyone who can accurately mimic that noise in the same fashion.  In the episode(s) where they eat gumball cakes, other characters try to make that same noise, through rather unsuccessfully.

ThumpTheShoes:
Even Shemp couldn't manage it in Gents in a Jam, whilst being spun on the shoulders of Rocky Duggan.
