Let's not forget Edgar was also the final out when the Red Sox won in 2004. Congrats Sarah and any other Giants fans out there. I wonder why the Rangers fans are still hanging around; it's customary to vacate when the opponent celebrates on your turf. Fantastic pitching for the most part by the Giants, I'm just disappointed the season is over.

It's a nice story that SF won for the first time since 1954, and it's a nice story how they barely made into the playoffs to begin with... but besides that, this was a rather forgettable, mostly one-sided affair that rarely stood out.

I forgive the 30 errors, the wasted contract, and Julio Lugo just for that one magical moment.  He may have been wearing a Cardinals uniform, but that night, October 27, 2004, Edgar Renteria was a true Red Sox.

He records the final out in '04, and if you add in his accomplishments in '97 and '10, he's had one hell of a World Series career.

Speaking of not being able to do such things for the Red Sox, what the heck got into Javier Lopez?  All the sudden he is one of the most feared lefty specialists in the game.  I remember when he was a young pup giving away home runs regularly to Carlos Pena.  At least Ramon Ramirez reverted back to form this post season.

Congrats to the Giants, and Curlysdame, enjoy your winter.  There's always something magical about an off-season where your team is the champ.  You Giants fans deserve it.

Welcome aboard.  If a couple of Red Sox fans could be civil with a Yankee fan here (and vice versa), then surely you can tolerate a few Red Sox and Yankee fans.  If not, just have something in your sig about '46, '64, and '67 and we'll be even.

As somebody who does not follow the Cards on a daily basis, I have to ask you Cardinal fans what is wrong with Tony Larussa?  He's one of the most respected managers in the game, and his pitching coach ain't too shabby either.  I'd be curious to hear a more knowledgable take on him.

I have no tolerance problem with fans of ANY team. But I'm a N.L. fan. To this day I have never watched an A.L. game. I am not equipped to discuss that league, exept for stuff like Murderers Row...you know, old stuff, baseball history and trivia.

The Cards laid an egg again this year, but the N.L. is back! WTG Giants. I NEVER thought you would do it.

and I am a Yankees fan, but I also like talking about everything baseball, current and historical stuff. I've spent
alot of time brushing up on baseball history online, I need to find some good books too.

One of my favorite movies is Eight Men Out, the story of the Black Sox Scandal. How several players on the
1919 White Sox lost the World Series on purpose to the Reds for big money from gamblers and gangsters so
they could fix the series. That whole episode of baseball history is very fascinating to me.

If anyone knows of any good books on baseball history let me know.

As for the current offseason, its going to be really interesting. Alot of big name free agents are in play.

Cliff Lee, Carl Crawford, Jayson Werth, and a few others top the list.

Red Sox have alot of decisions to make about who to keep, who to let go, and who to go after.

First off, I think a lot of people are under the assumption Boston's trading Ellsbury because he had a lost season due to injury.  I really hope we give him another chance.  He's only in his mid-20's, plays good defense, and is an incredible baserunner.  He's made things happen on the bases, like stealing home or scoring from second on a wild pitch, so he's worth hanging onto.  I just wish he's learn to draw more walks with his speed, but maybe that'll come with maturity.

That said, sign me up for the Carl Crawford parade, with Crawford in left and Ellsbury in center.  We have Drew for right one more season and that'll be it for him.  Crawford and Ellsbury in the same line-up would be incredible, as Boston has never had that much speed at once.  Carl Crawford also has some pop in his bat and is also a good defender.  Playing all those years in the East, I'm sure the Green Monster won't have much a learning curve for Crawford either.

I won't complain if we get Jason Werth, he's an upgrade over Drew, but I'd rather have Carl Crawford.

I also hope we re-sign Beltre, but I don't think that's happening.  Vee shall see.  Youkilis has publically said he's preparing to play third this off-season just in case Boston doesn't sign Beltre and goes after another 1st baseman.  A trade for Prince Fielder would be great.  Maybe they'll re-sign Victor Martinez (by the way, he's the celebrity closest to age with me, being one day older) and have him platoon back and forth between catcher and 1st with Salty, who knows?

I also think there's going to be a shortstop platoon between Lowrie and Scutaro, but it's too early to tell how excatly how the 2011 Sox will look.

Justine...the Black Sox scandle was caught, but games being thrown was rampant between 1900 and 1919. If Rothstien had not had so much money tied up in this fix they could have gone on for years fixing the series.

Little known fact: Arnold Rothstien had nothing to do with the Black Sox scandal....two small time hoods put it together and got A.R. to finance it. He was just a business man sure of making a buck.

Joe Jackson was as guilty as hell....he was the only one that was acually paid the 10 grand. That he played well in the series made him a double crook.

Boid, the vitriol you have towards the 1919 Chicago White Sox would lead me to believe that you were alive when it all took place if I didn't know better. Wow!

As for Crawford/Werth I would want Crawford first but would not complain if we were "stuck" with Werth (whom the Sox seem to be going after). The Sox have other issues as well, such as getting someone on the corner infield (probably a 1B and put Youk back at 3rd), solidifying the bullpen and of course getting more pop in the lineup around Papi. The starting rotation is fine just the way it is, which should make the Skanks and Rangers happy since the Sox don't need Lee.
