True, that......but still, I WOULD like to see Curly playing with Wii

You are easily entertained.

Joe Pesci would have been a decent Moe

No way; if you need a mobster get Joe Pesci, if you need a Moe get Moe Howard.

This movie, if it ever gets made, will suck all sorts of ass no matter who plays the Stooges and no matter who makes the film. Why? Because Benicio Del Toro cannot play Moe, Sean Penn cannot play Larry and Jim Carrey cannot play Curly. The only people who can play those roles and pull them off are Moe Howard as Moe, Larry Fine as Larry and Jerome Howard as Curly (and if Shemp were to have been a part of it, Samuel Howard as Shemp). The actors made and morphed themselves with the characters to the point where to most people they became indistinguishable.  Nobody else can play those parts, and the last time I checked all of those guys are long dead.

The Three Stooges were product of their time and left us with an enormous canon of films. Let's keep them in their time, look at the films they made in their time! There is no good reason to try to bring them into the present with actors that cannot play those parts. []  The Three Stooges time has come and gone (in fact their time went while they were still working) and all six of them that were at one time members of the group have died. Let's be content with the work they left behind.

Agreed, and 100% correct.

There's a reason that this Farrelly/C3 project was announced in 2001, and gone nowhere since. Warner Bros. dropped the option... followed by independent producers who couldn't get financing... and now MGM/UA grasping for straws. Regardless, the concept is an ill-advised insult to the memory of The Three Stooges. The script the Farrelly brothers developed, as described in the April 2004 New Yorker confirms that.

Let's put all earlier casting comments back into perspective, for the "several-eth" time...

Carrey, Del Toro, Penn, et. al., not a single one of them was signed & committed to actually perform in this ill-advised project. That was all PR smoke-and-mirrors put out there once MGM/UA optioned the Farrelly project... the actors mentioned received compensation in exchange for their names to be used in MGM/UA promotions. Specifically, to leverage the value of their boxoffice names to promote MGM/UA's backlog of projects, and hopefully attract other studios and financial backers to pull MGM/UA out of its financial quagmire. And every step of the way, the DeRita heirs who manage C3 happily jumped on the MGM bandwagon to promote their website's wares.

MGM/UA got its [temporary] reprieve the past week, with debt holders taking equity in the company, based on the future market value(s) of "James Bond" and "The Hobbit."

Wherever this Farrelly/C3 project winds up, MGM/UA or elsewhere, it will be wrong... as mentioned numerous times, only Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Shemp Howard, Jerome Howard, and yes, Joe Besser & Joe DeRita are The Three Stooges.

A conversation I had with a C3 exec in 2005 talked about this movie that will "make the Stooges relevant for the 21st century," and "make money." Very reminiscent of a 1998 argument I had with a C3 exec on a different topic, but just as relevant, who told me that "I can't be expected to understand these things, because I'm just a fan."

I look forward to a new topic of discussion... "The Three Stooges Film Project by Farrellys & C3... D.O.A."

That was directed at Brent, lol.  [pie]

By the way, you are wrong about being the only fan who was looking forward to the movie. Just look at the postings from Boird Brain and flash in this thread. Those of us against the project are very passionate and protective of the Stooges and their legacy is all. The only Farrelly Bros. movie that I have seen that I didn't detest was There's Something About Mary. I shudder to think of the damage they would cause the Three Stooges.

I'm still pissed at them for intruding on the Red Sox 2004 World Series celebration by filming that fucking turd Fever Pitch (which gets my vote for Worst Movie Ever).

My Grandma (RIP) thought that John Candy would have been a good Curly.

On a side comment, i remember her watching a movie with female versions of the Stooges fighting at a resturant. I never saw that on tv again.

John Candy (SCTV), Cathy Ladman (SUNDAY COMICS), and others have performed many fine tributes to the Three Stooges over the years. These ranged from caricatures, honors and satires. This site's ThreeStooges.net Tribute Filmography has a filmography dedicated to them.

They are unlike the stalled-for-10-years (and hopefully dead-in-the-sewage it spawned from) Farrelly/C3 film project, which intent is to invent a "new" Three Stooges, for a new comedy film series, and capitalize on the marketing opportunities that come with it.

The "female versions" you recall were not from a movie, but a TV show sketch; again, the details behind it are in this site's Tribute filmography...

Cathy Ladman (Moereen), Judy Toll (Larrietta) and Judy Nazametz (Curly Ann) in "The Three Stoogettes & Cafe Society" (SUNDAY COMICS, Sept. 1991)

John Candy performed tributes to Curly Howard on SCTV... his contributions are also logged in this site's Tribute Filmography, including the Ben-Hur, Godfather, and Howard Hughes skits.

Please feel free to visit this site's filmographies and databases.

No, you are not..I'm looking forward to it big time...all they gotta do is make up new skits with high tech visuals.

And put in some pussy. ;)

I quote from the movie Ed Wood:

George Weiss: Tits.

Like what shemps#1 said about Moe, I'm going to say the same thing regarding Curly. If you need a Curly, get Curly Howard.  ;)

I DO think it could be good...provided that it was done right... I thought  "Dumb and Dumber" had some lowbrow but funny moments, so a good stooge movie is possible- as for the stooges legacy, I adore all six stooges plus Ted Healy and you won't find a bigger fan then m. In truth, the odds of the movie it being stoogeworthy are very, very slim...it's just that I can't think of anyone else in hollywood better suited to that kind of humour then the Farrelly brothers. Remember that Curly WAS replaced three times and Emil Sitka had been picked to replace Larry so such things are possible. Not likely, but possible!

Flash, something tells me that you would like this movie, or anything with "Three Stooges" slapped on it, no matter what.

This is the closest to pornography I've ever posted on this site.  This has been posted before, but for you people who support this movie, here's another reminder.
