Poor Stooges. SpikeTV treats them like garbage and parades them around as 30 minute sitcoms, which clearly they are not. And all the bells and whistles, like those lame montages, are just excess fat. Furthermore, it's much too intrusive to show flashy previews for other shows (at the bottom of the screen) during the opening credits of each short.

I doubt we'll ever see the Missing 60 on a station like Spike or AMC, who dropped the Stooges a year or so ago. Luckily a couple of the missing shorts are on the Merry Mavericks DVD - Vagabond Loafers and Dopey Dicks, two of the better Shemp shorts.

I would have to agree. the stooge must be watched without interruption of any kind

Fugitive Lovers isn't that great a Stooge film to make a mark on the calendar for ... unless you are the total Stooge freak I am ... this movie has the boys in a VERY subdued light. They have hardly any snappy banter or slapstick situations. BUT ... it DOES have our beloved trio in the movie, so it is AT LEAST worth one viewing!
The tacks won't come out! Well, they went in ... maybe they're income tacks.

I was trying to see this (Fugitive Lovers) as its the only one I don't have on tape. I emailed TCM and they came back with no real answer, just that it was preempted for Shelley Winters. They stated all skipped movies would be shown in March. Any news on this....?
Thanks--

In "Horses' Collars" Curly mistakes a radio for a safe, and the radio announcer mentions "You're listening to WGN" (Chicago). Can anyone identify any other Stooges shorts where radio station WGN is mentioned? Which short includes a scene where foreign (or Confederate) military officers gather in a room and Curly hides behind the radio? He plays an instrument as in an imaginary program after one goes to turn on the radio. After one changes the station, doesn't Curly mention "WGN" then?

You're thinking of DUTIFUL BUT DUMB (1941). The boys are in a country named "Vulgaria", so those are foreign military officers. Check out the transcript of that short which is available on this site; there is no mention of WGN.

It wouldn't have been Confederates because there radio hadn't been invented when the Civil War was being fought (although, if you wanna nitpick, in SQUAREHEADS OF THE ROUND TABLE, the Stooges did dance to "Way Down Upon the Swanee River" being played on an "ancient" radio in King Arthur's Court).

Okay, I had to look at the dates on this. I was wondering why Spike was showing the Stooges during the weekday.

Thanks for your reply.

Can anyone name the tune that we hear when Curly plays the pan flute behind the radio?

Without going back & watching that short to be sure, I recall that being "The Frederick March", a song used in many of their shorts. And, thanks to this terrific website, a song the name of which I would probably have never known otherwise.

Loco,
When Spike TV was previously running the Stooges regularly, they used the same schedule, weekends and weekdays at the same times of day. There is nothing new about Spike showing them during the week.

I used to watch every day then, even though they had 2 repetitive & annoying commercial breaks per short to stretch them out into a half hour (reminded me of Moe's line, "everywhere we go, commercial announcements"). But we didn't have the new CDs then. I can't think of a good reason to watch now, when I can see them remastered & without commercials.
