My Mom gets a wonderful nostalgia magazine called "Reminisce".  I was going through an old issue when I read a small article that sounded a lot like little Moses' story.

Note that the year is 1923 mentioned in the article; years after Moe was a little kid.

Interesting story and a great magazine, I read it at the local library.  Moe knew about these curls and having to cut them off.  Of course this started the Moe haircut sort of.   Seems this hairstyle for boys was brought over by immigrants and was more widespead than we thought.
