I wish today's political scene could achieve this level of integrity and reality.

Yes, I remember the episodes quite well.  Maybe McPain and O'Bummer should have it out with their Grand Orders of Occidental Nighthawks, instead of those wasteful ads.  Either Batman or the Penguin could probably have done a better job in Washington.

It took decades to undo the damage to the Batman character that this TV show did. With that said, it is so horrendous and in an unapologetic manner that there is an appeal to the show. The acting, the fighting, the script...so so bad it's enjoyable.

Give some of us old folks a little credit Jim. I was able to tell the difference between the TV Show and the comic book. They were both very good, but in different ways. I don't think the show did any damage. If anything it might have helped to bring attention to the Batman popularity.

I say it "did damage" to the Batman character in the eyes of fans of the comic book fans but rather in the eyes of the general public. For years Batman was thought of as goofy and campy when in fact the comic book Batman was anything but. I'm sure that due to the exposure of the television show that Adam West prancing around was the first thing the average person thought of when Batman was brought up. I had this old LP of Batman stories that was made around 1979, more than a decade after the television show went off the air, and the not only were the stories goofy but they had a "cover" of the TV theme song. It really wasn't until Frank Miller came out with The Dark Knight graphic novel which led to the Burton films that Batman got his edge and coolness back with the general public (that is until Shumaker would attempt to destroy it with his films, but the new movies have undone the damage of Hurricane Shumaker).

For some reason, I could never seem to enjoy that Batman TV show. I really like the Burton films and the two newer movies (Batman Begins & The Dark Knight), but this show, I can't stand.

It was a very cool show when one is 7 or 8!

I grew up with watching it in syndication in the 1970s.

Howard Stern has said that while he enjoyed the show when he was a small child, he knew the difference between the comic book Batman and the TV Batman and used to wish that there was a "cooler" Batman that was truer to the comics on TV or in the movies.

The only time I was ever into Batman of any type was when the 1989 film came out.  I was 10 and thought I was cool because I was seeing a PG-13 movie.  It was at that point that I realized how crazy merchandising can get as well, as you literally could not escape Batman at the time.  The same thing happened with The Simpsons shortly after when the show was new and Bart was more the focus than Homer.

Speaking of the election, I want go on record as predicting that after long careful deliberation which included counting with both my fingers and toes that Obama should win the election with 298 electoral votes to McCain's 240. The Bradley Effect should make it tighter and perhaps swing a state or two towards McCain, but Obama should still have electoral votes to carry the election.

I have a feeling Obama is going to win by a long shot. Majority of people seem to like him better than McCain and more people believe that he has more of a chance on helping the economy. I, personally, believe we are screwed no matter who wins, but that's just my opinion.

I feel it will be closer than that due to the Bradley Effect: white voters telling pollsters they'll vote for a black candidate but doing the opposite because they don't want to appear racist. This could mean they wouldn't vote for a black candidate because they are black and can also mean  that race had nothing to do with their vote but they feel that if they tell the pollster they voted for the white candidate they will come off as racist.

You are right though, either way we're screwed. If Obama wins and anyone here makes at least $200,000 a year you're severely fucked.

I seem to remember having some karma points bet on the outcome of this Presidential race. But I don't remember with who. I guess it doesn't matter anyway because we don't use karma points anymore. Too bad it wasn't a bet with money.

Damn, there goes all my income.

I literally had no plans of voting today, but since I went out to lunch with my Mom, she wanted to stop and vote along the way.  I was pretty much sucked in because my parents are the type who firmly believe in voting, and if she saw I didn't vote, I wouldn't have heard the end of it from either of them.  I voted Bob Barr as a protest to the two party system.  It doesn't matter because Delaware's a blue state as it is, and Joe Biden (who I met in high school) running for VP makes Obama even more of a shoe in.

In reality, I hardly follow politics because I feel I have little control and don't trust the sources I'm getting information from.  Whenever the media comments on things I do have knowledge on, I see how wrong they generally get things.  I can't imagine how badly they must screw up the real important issues.

Same here which is why I was forced to vote today. I don't know what's so special about this election. The place was mobbed. I don't recall it being like this during the Bush/Kerry election. Even my parents don't ever recall it ever being this crowded during election day.

I should have taken part in that bet. Looks like my prediction is correct. As of now, Obama is far in the lead.

Edit: Obama is the winner and by a long shot, just as I predicted.

This morning, while thinking about a trip to Walt Disney World in 2010, it struck me ...
By then the Obama animatronic guy will be installed in the Hall of Presidents.

I wonder where they will place him ... maybe next to Lincoln?
The tacks won't come out! Well, they went in ... maybe they're income tacks.

I was surprised that states like Indiana, Virginia and North Carolina actually went democrat. I can theorize Virginia and NC the way I theorized Florida would flip: snowbirds. Florida has always had a lot of snowbirds (people from the north who move down south, usually for the better weather) but VA and NC have had a major snowbird influx in recent years. Other factors for the Obama win overall are the shitty job GW Bush has done, McCain picking Palin as his running mate (Bush with a snatch) and McCain's age. If the polls are to be believed more people thought the candidates' age was a factor than race, and 55% of those who thought race was a factor voted FOR Obama instead of against him.

I'd also like to think that the country as a whole (except the deep south and parts of the midwest) is rejecting evangelicalism in their politics. Not to say that McCain was an evangelical (he's not) but the thought of Palin right behind him as he has one foot in the grave was scary.
