The first Andy Clyde Columbia short to receive an official Sony DVD release is coming out on June 10.

A restored print of Clyde's HOT PAPRIKA (1935) will be a bonus feature on a box-set of Hammer Studios pirate/adventure films starring Christopher Lee from the early 1960s, "Icons of Adventure" ($24.95 SRP).

HOT PAPRIKA (1935) features Andy trapped on an desert island, dealing with a native uprising. With Columbia/Stooge veterans Bud Jamison, Ethelreda Leopold, Harry Semels, June Gittelson and Johnny Kascier; directed by Jack White (aka Preston Black).

I like some of Hammer's horror movies (own a few sets) and have always been curious to see Andy Clyde Columbia shorts.  I'm only familiar with Clyde as a chameleon type character actor in silent comedies.

OK, so they ain't horror, but these films are Hammer, have Christopher Lee, AND they throw in an Andy Clyde?  Hmm, I may consider it.

Hmm, Andy Clyde would be nice, but then again, so would DVD packages of the Shemp, Besser and DeRita solo Columbia shorts.  Sony appears to have LOTS of films in it's vault that deserve to see the light-of-day.  OK Sony, let's get crackin'! ;)

In my opinion, it's not the best Clyde short to use for this theme...it's an OK choice, but I would have went with THE PEPPERY SALT instead...now, I am not complaining and I couldn't be happier that Sony is restoring their non-Stooge shorts and giving them some long overdue exposure. Andy made some pretty funny shorts, and he's one of my favorites (I like El Brendel too) Keep 'em coming Sony!

Another bonus feature of interest on Sony's new "Icons of Adventure" DVD collection...

THE MERRY MUTINEERS (1936)

The short is filled with 'pirate' animated versions of: The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, The Marx Brothers, Bing Crosby, Joe E. Brown, Charles Laughton, W. C. Fields, Al Jolson, Jimmy Durante, Fred Astaire and Wallace Beery.
